Pella — June 6 Thursdays in Pella: Celebrating Pella's Families

Many things to do downtown this Thursday evening! Featuring a bicycle rodeo, music from the Children's Choir, a Pathways of Pella walk, presentations by area family groups, and more. City Band performance at 8 pm on the Tulip Toren. 6-9 pm.   



June 6 Kids Talk-The Importance of Safety

Bring your kids into this group setting and listen to an Officer from the Pella Police Department talk about The Importance of Safety- The Difference Between Good and Bad People/Situations. From 10-11am in room #204 of the Pella Community Center. The event is for kids ages 3 and older.  Sponsored by the Pella Police Department and The MOMS Club of Pella.   

  

  

June 7 Roger Brooks Red Rock Area Community Assessment Workshop

Over several days, respected Destination Development Guru Roger Brooks will travel around the Lake Red Rock area communities to identify opportunities which will help the area develop. The public is invited to attend a branding presentation and workshop where he will share his insights. From 7-11 am at Pella Christian High School; Pre-registration cost is $20 for Marion County residents or CITR members or $40 general registration. All day-of registrations will be $60. June 7 Alzheimer's Association: The Longest Day Registration Deadline

Work Systems Rehab & Fitness, P.C is locally sponsoring a global event for the Alzheimer's Association, The Longest Day on June 21, 2013.  Teams will join together from sunrise to sunset to honor those affected by Alzheimer's by participating in a multitude of activities all day long!  These activities range from Pickle Ball to bicycling to Body Combat. June 7 Wine & Burger Night at Tassel Ridge Winery

June 7 Fridays After 5

Live music + patio + drinks + summer + great company = the perfect way to end a week! Young Professionals is hosting this event, but anyone age 21+ is encouraged to attend; bring a friend or come make some new ones! From 7-10 pm on the Molengracht, $5 covers live music & appetizers, cash bar. Fully Loaded will be covering songs from the 80's and 90's, you won't want to miss this! Rain location: Billy Jaks. (Mark your calendars for these other Friday After 5 events for 2013: July 13 at North Overlook Beach as part of Red Rock Balloon Fest  and August 9 back on the Molengracht).





June 8 Lake Red Rock presents Go Fly a Kite!  

Celebrate National Get Outdoors Day by catching the breeze off Lake Red Rock from 1-3 pm for some great kite flying fun! Bring your own kite, or you can borrow one from us (Limited number of kites available). Kites are also available for purchase from the Red Rock Visitor Center. Programs are free of charge and reservations are not needed. For more information, contact the Corps office at (641)628-8690.





June 8 JDRF Motorcycle Poker Ride

Support a great cause and have fun doing it! Meet at the Pella Molengracht, with registration for riders at 11 am - 1 pm (1 pm last bike out). From 6:30-10:30pm enjoy the sounds of Sons of Gladys Kravitz, with ride registration. Cost is $25/hand. June 10 IPTV's Dan Wardell at the Pella Public Library

Dan Wardell, popular host of IPTV's Kids Clubhouse, will travel to Pella as he tours 66 communities this summer as part of the seventh-annual Reading Road Trip. Bring the kids to this interactive storytime. This year, Dan's story time encourages kids to "Dig Into Reading!" complete with a special gift for every child who comes to story time. Monday June 10 at both 10 am and 11 am at the Pella Community Center's Joan Kuyper Farver Auditorium.





June 12 Knit-In at Pella Regional

It's World-Wide Knit-In Public Day, and Pella Regional's Auxiliary is inviting all knitters to come to the hospital on Wednesday, June 12 from 9 am to noon to knit or crochet lap robes for our Long Term Care Residents. These special gifts to residents will be used this summer and fall at Pella Regional, and residents will be able to take the lap robes with them as they transition to their new home with WesleyLife or elsewhere late this year. Interested knitters should enter Pella Regional through the main hospital door. Knitting will take place in the volunteer room. For more information, contact Angie Lyng at 641-621-2362.





June 13 Thursdays in Pella: Paws N' Claws

Grab Fido and head downtown for a celebration of our four-legged friends! Pony rides, veterinarians (with pets to adopt), free goodies for your pet, pelts, and goats to pet will all be on the square! Please note: please bring well-mannered, immunized pets only. Pets must be leashed and owners must be prepared to dispose of any waste. Thursdays in Pella are held most Thursday nights in June and July, and are a great way to get out and enjoy the Pella community. Each night has a different theme, and features music, entertainment, and food vendors. City band will conclude each evening with performances at 8 pm. Come out and have fun!





June 14-16 Gateway to Hope Garden Tour

Gateway to Hope Garden Tour offers walk-throughs of three Pella Gardens and three country gardens on Friday, June 14, 5-8 pm;  Saturday, June 15, 10-3 pm; and Sunday, June 16, 1-4 pm. Saturday includes sales of plants, garden art, and ceramics at StonyPoint gardens, along with the option to purchase lunch. Transportation to the country gardens is available each day for $10 per person. Call 641-628-1636 to reserve a seat.  Donations to the tour will fund attendance at arts camps and Bible Schools for Nicaraguan children from the very poor neighborhoods.
