Pella — A somewhat small fire broke out at Highpoint Apartments, located along E. 13th St. in Pella early Sunday morning. According to Pella Fire Chief Doug Van Gorkom most of the damage was in the interior of the apartment and the fire itself was put out rapidly. Once on scene Van Gorkom said his crew had the fire out in about 30 seconds.

Van Gorkom also said that due to the location of the fire people inside the building were not able to exit the building and his crew had to rescue individuals off of the balcony of the complex.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.

Also assisting the Pella Fire Dept. were the Pella Ambulance, the Pella Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

No injuries were reported.
