April 10-11 Pella Community Schools Kindergarten Round-Up 2014
Madison Elementary will be holding Kindergarten Roundup on Thursday, April 10, and Lincoln Elementary will be holding Kindergarten Roundup on Friday, April 11. Session times for both buildings are 9-11 am and 1-3 pm. Please bring an updated immunization record and a copy of your child's birth certificate. Only children who are age 5 on or before September 15 are eligible to enter kindergarten for the 2014-2015 school year. April 10-13 Union Street Players present "Ham Buns and Potato Salad"

Union Street Players presents Ham Buns and Potato Salad! This funny and poignant play was written by local playwright Tom Vander Well. Ham Buns and Potato Salad will be performed at the Pella Community Center (712 Union Street, Pella, Iowa) April 10-12 at 7 pm and April 13 at 2 pm. The show runs approximately 2 hours with an intermission. Tickets are $8 for adults in advance and $10 at the door; $6 for students in advance and $8 at the door. April 10 Central College presents Joshua Dolezal's Writer's Reading

Joshua Dolezal, associate professor of English, will read from his memoir "Down from the Mountaintop" for the Writers Reading series April 10 at Central College. In his coming-of-age memoir, Dolezal shares his childhood growing up as a homesteader in northwestern Montana. Later, moves to Tennessee, Nebraska, Uruguay and Iowa leave him with a longing for his mountain home. Dolezal will read in the Geisler Library Reading Room at 7:30 pm. The event is free and open to the public.





April 10 Student Showcase Recital

April 11 St. Francis in the Americas: A Caribbean Mass

Featuring College Community Choir and the Flying Pans Steel Band. Free and open to the public. At 7 pm, First Reformed Church (605 Broadway). Questions? Contact Central College Music Department, 641-628-7520.





April 11 The Booth Brothers Concert

Enjoy some great gospel music! Iowa Southern Gospel Music Concerts are reserved seating, so please call ahead to 641-660-0443. Tickets are $23 in advance, $26 after April 4. $10 for children 2-12 $21 each for groups of 10+. April 11 Pella Opera House presents Rock Sirenz

Join us at 7 pm for an amazing concert! A rock band and three singers will be standing on the shoulders of the rock goddesses who came before them. From Aretha Franklin to Kelly Clarkson, from Pat Benatar to the Supremes, from Blondie to Beyoncé-if a major female rock star performed it, you'll see the Rock Sirenz bringing it back to life! See if some of these names ring a bell, because they will all be part of the show: Madonna, Cher, Pink, Janis, Tina, Heart, and more! April 12-21 Friends of the Library Book Sale

The Friends of the Library will hold their annual Spring Cleaning Book Sale April 12-21. The sale will be held in the meeting room all hours the library is open. A variety of books will be available for the donation of your choice.





April 12 TTT Garage Sale Fundraiser

TTT is a non-profit that sends 4 local girls to Camp Hantesa every summer. To help raise funds, we are holding a 35+ family garage/ bake sale from 8-12 am at the Pella Memorial Building.





April 12 Sheila Walsh Women's Conference

Sheila Walsh will be leading an all-day women's conference at Federated Fellowship Church (309 Roosevelt Rd, Pella), 9am-3pm (doors open at 8am). Real Women (www.realwomenoffaith.com), is hosting this 3rd Pella women's conference and is happy to invite you! Come spend the day soaking in God's Word through Sheila Walsh sharing Real Life, Real Stories, and Real Faith with Real Women. Tickets are available on our website for $33 and $30 at The Sanctuary Bookstore, Coffeehouse, & Gifts (719 Franklin). Sheila is a powerful Bible teacher and best-selling author from Scotland with over 4 million books sold. A featured speaker with Women of faith conferences, she has reached more than 5 million women by combining honesty, vulnerability, and humor with God's Word.



   

April 12 Residential E-Cycling Day

Local households can bring their old electronics in to be recycled in an environmentally safe and secure manner. From 9am-noon, items can be dropped off at Pella Corporation's parking lot at the Clark & South St. intersection. All items will be professionally processed by Midwest Electronic Recovery. Acceptable items include: Computer Monitors, PCs, Laptops, TVs, Cell Phones, Keyboards, Printers, Cameras (No appliances, microwaves, tires, paint or oil). There will be no charge for residents to drop off acceptable items however donations will be accepted. Proceeds will be used to promote environmental stewardship through a grant program available to local schools. All items must be dropped off during the event only. Also, due to federal regulations, we are not able to accept items from businesses, schools, churches or other organizations. April 12 Pella Easter Egg Hunt

Hop on over to the Pella Easter Egg Hunt! For children ages 1-8 at the Tulip Toren, Central Park. Hunt will start at 10:30 am. Rain date is the following Saturday, April 19. Sponsored by Kiwanis and the Community 1st Credit Union.





April 12 Basket Shop Spring Open House  

The Basket Shop on the Molengraacht is having an open house from 9am-4pm. Come check out the new shipment of Pine Needle Baskets, Coffee, and Vanilla from Honduras. We also have a lot of new spring gift baskets. If you can't find what you like - we have individual items that you can create your own gift baskets. We will have coffee and goodies for you to enjoy while you shop. All proceeds go to PATTH (Pella Area Teams to Honduras) for Medical and Construction supplies. April 12 De Bloemen Hof presents Living Wreath Class

Create an amazing living wreath with succulents, in an array of colors & textures that will provide year-round interest. These wreaths are great pieces of living artwork for your outdoor space. Plus, they are low maintenance & drought tolerant. 11 am at De Bloemen Hof, across from Fareway. The workshop following the demonstration is $40 and limited to 10 participants. April 12 Central College presents jazz singer Catherine Russell

Critically acclaimed jazz singer Catherine Russell will perform at Central College at 7:30 pm in Cox-Snow Recital Hall. A native of New York, Russell has released five albums and performed at venues like Tanglewood, the Kennedy Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Sculler's Jazz Club in Boston, Yoshi's in San Francisco and The Pasadena Pops in Los Angeles. She has also made appearances on The Tavis Smiley Show on PBS and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Previously, Russell has performed with David Bowie, Steely Dan, Cyndi Lauper, Paul Simon, Rosanne Cash and others. In 2012, Russell won a Grammy Award for her appearance on the soundtrack of HBO's "Boardwalk Empire." This performance is free and open to the public.

April 14-19 Food For Fines

During National Library Week (April 14-19, 2014) the Pella Public Library will accept non-perishable food items in exchange for overdue fines. One food item will equal $1.00 in fines; two food items equal $2.00, etc.; up to a one time maximum of $5.00. Food items donated will be given to the Food Shelf. April 16 MOMS Club of Pella 3rd Annual Egg Hunt

Free event. Bring kids to participate in our Egg Hunt. To participate, please bring 12 filled plastic eggs per each child participating to West Market Park before 10 am. All eggs will be collected and hidden in an area at the park. Egg hunt will begin shortly after 10 am. Stick around afterwards for the kids to do an Easter craft and play at the park. April 19 Gene Van Wyk 5k Memorial Run

Pella Home Realty is proud to sponsor the seventh annual 5k Gene Van Wyk Memorial Run/Walk. Proceeds donated to the Gene Van Wyk Memorial Fund at Pella Christian High. Registration is $20 for students, $25 for adults or families for $75, and includes a t-shirt, breakfast, gift bag and a chance to win great door prizes. Registration begins at 8 am at Pella Christian High School, with the race starting at 9 am.
