April 26 Union Street Players' Auditions for "Seussical the Musical"  

 Audition for "Seussical the Musical" with lead/solo roles for 8 men, 7 women, and 2 kids, with additional ensemble roles, production crews, and a dance troupe (all ages needed for these roles). Please come to auditions ready to show us any unusual or extraordinary talents you might have, as well as a calendar of summer commitments to share with us as we plan rehearsals. Auditions are April 21, 6:30-9:30 pm; April 22, 6:30-9 pm; and April 26, 9 am- noon.  Scripts are available at the Pella Public Library Circulation Desk. Rehearsals will begin after Memorial Day, run through July, and then performances will be July 25-26, and July 31- August 3. See for more information or contact



April 23-26 Central College Fringe Festival

Central College will host this four-day event, which is produced by students and will include theater acts, music, dramatic readings, comedy acts and cultural events. Friday, April 25: Noon-24 Hour Drawing Marathon, Mills Gallery; 6 pm Lone Star, Kruidenier Theatre Studio; 6 pm Color Me Central: A Run to Celebrate Holi; 8 pm Blue Instrumental and Vocal Combos Concert, Cox-Snow Recital Hall.


Saturday, April 26: 10 am The Opposite Show with Biscuits the Clown, family-friendly event, Kruidenier lawn; 12 pm Ham Buns and Potato Salad Excerpt, Geisler Library Café; 4 pm The Opposite Show with Biscuits the Clown, family-friendly event, Kruidenier lawn; 7:30 pm Nightfall with Edgar Allen Poe, Kruidenier Theatre Studio. Free with Central ID, $6 for adults, $3 for students; 7:30 pm Percussion Extravaganza, Douwstra.  


April 24-26  Pella's Got Talent

We welcome you to audition for Pella's Got Talent! We want all local talent to come out to the Pella Opera House and strut your stuff! No fee to audition. No previous experience necessary... unless you are playing with fire.  $5 admission for non-auditioners, at 7 pm Thursday-Saturday at the Pella Opera House.  Finalists will perform Saturday, May 10 at 7 pm. Call by Monday, April 21 to schedule an audition to 641-628-8628. Cash prizes to the top 3 contestants!



April 24 Marion County Employers Council (ECI)

This month's topic: Unemployment Appeals Process. Any employee or business owner that works with/in Human Resources (HR) is invited to attend, including professionals who may have human resources as their primary job duty and those who may only work with HR on a very limited basis.  ECI meetings are held bi-monthly and provide an opportunity to network with individuals from around Marion County who work in/with HR, and learn about current HR issues that affect every business.  At the Pizza Ranch Meeting Room, 508 Main Street, from 11:30-12:30 pm. April 24 Pella Farmer's Market (First of the Year)

Enjoy the first yields of spring! From 3-6 pm at the parking lot of First Reformed Church. Pella Farmer's Market is held on Thursdays 3-6 pm and Saturdays 9am-noon during growing season (No farmer's market the week of Tulip Time). 



April 24 Young Professionals Photo Scavenger Hunt

With the weather getting nicer, it is time to get outside and start running around.  To help you get going, YP is hosting a Photo Scavenger Hunt around Pella! You won't be able to contain your laughter as you scurry around town with your team to take pictures and earn points. You may even come home with a prize! Anyone in their 20's and 30's living or working in the Pella area is welcome to attend. Bring your own 4-person team (2 guys and 2 girls per team, please) or we will create teams that evening. Meet at the Brew for instructions at 7 pm, end at 9 pm at Lamppost Lounge. Questions? Contact  



April 25-26 Pella Community High School presents Carnaby Club  

Enjoy a variety show of talented high school students presented by the music and drama departments. The show will be held in the Pella Community High School West Gym. Doors open at 7 pm and the performances will begin at 7:30 pm.  Admission is $5 (Children 5 and under are free) and popcorn and soda are available.  



April 25 Central College presents Blue Combos Concert

Featuring the Blue Vocal and Instrumental Combos. Free and open to the public. At Cox-Snow Recital Hall at 8 pm. Contact Central College Music Department, 641-628-7520, with questions.



April 26 Free Breakfast at Second Reformed Church 

Come to Second Reformed Church from 8:30 to 10:30 am for a free breakfast. No questions, no RSVP needed, just walk in. Children welcome. Contact 641-628-3982 with questions.



April 26 Pella Farmer's Market

April 26 Mustang Show at Ulrich Ford Lincoln

April 26 De Bloemen Hof presents Vegetable Container Gardening

Learn various methods for growing vegetables in containers. Soils, watering, plant placement, fertilizing and different containers to use. Please call 641.628.2571 by Friday, April 25 to register. Two workshops will be held, one at 11 am and another at 2 pm, both at De Bloemen Hof (across from Fareway). All attendees will receive a special promotion, inquire for details.



April 26 Central College presents Percussion Extravaganza

April 28 9th Annual Dutch Baking Contest

Dust off your Dutch Recipes and enter the 9th Annual Dutch Baking Contest! The event is held at the Steerenberg Library in the Pella Historical Village. Bring your entry between 5:15 - 6:15 pm. April 28 Pella Community Blood Drive

The Pella Community Blood Drive will be held from 1:30-6:30 pm at Peace Lutheran Church, 1000 Vermeer Rd. The drive is conducted by Life Serve Blood Center which serves 90 hospitals in Iowa, including  Pella Regional Health Center. To schedule a donation or with questions call 800-287-4903. Walk-ins and new donors are always welcome.  



April 30 - May 3 Tulip Time Quilt Show: Dutch Fun In Stitches

Pella Area Quilter's Guild Presents Tulip Time Quilt Show - Dutch Fun In Stitches at the Pella Opera House, 611 Franklin, Pella from April 30 to May 3, 10 am to 6 PM daily. Over 100 quilts will be displayed, member items will be for sale and a quilt will be raffled off. Admission is $4 and raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5.   



April 30 Klompen Classic

The Klompen Classic 5K Run/Walk is a family friendly event you won't want to miss! The run begins and ends at Pella's quaint town square with the 5K race route winding its way through the Dutch community showcasing windmills, hundreds of varieties of tulips and Dutch food vendors. All proceeds support local families with what they stand in need of...employment & financial help, free counseling, parenting & internet safety classes, substance abuse help and much more. 4:30 - 6:45 pm registration on the west side of the square; 6 pm FREE kid's run; 7 pm Adult race begins. May 1-3 Tulip Time!

Travel back in time with us to a European village full of windmills, tulips and excitement as we celebrate the 79th anniversary of this colorful festival. Pella is beautiful and unique all year long, but at Tulip Time it comes alive! Dutch attire, parades, authentic food, a Dutch Market, Dutch Dancing and the sounds of wooden shoes will transport you to the Netherlands in the Midwest. Parades are at 2:30 pm and 8:30 pm (the evening parade is lighted). Several other performances and interactive exhibits will be available. See for additional information. 



May 2-3 Lake Red Rock presents Stargazing 101 Programs 
Join Dr. Lee Wymore, amateur stargazer and biology teacher at Indian Hills Community College, to learn to identify some stars and constellations in our galaxy, the Milky Way. We'll also use an 8" Dobsonian reflector telescope to observe the rings of Saturn, the four Galilean moons of Jupiter, star clusters, and the occasional galaxy.  (Programs will be cancelled if cloudy/raining). May 3 Van Wijk Winery presents BEER tasting

The Van Wijk Winery will soon be offering BEER by the bottle. We will feature Iowa Brewed Beers as well as a couple of unique and exclusive imports you cannot find anywhere else. May 4 Tulip Time Sunday Worship Service

You're invited to participate in Tulip Time's  City Worship at 11 am at the Vermeer Pavilion.  Reverend Jill VerSteeg, Teaching Pastor at Meredith Reformed in Des Moines, will be preaching. Music will be led by Praise and Worship Leader Amy Steenhoek with the combined choirs of Pella Christian, Pella Community and Pella Community Eighth Grade Select Choir.  The offering will go to The Well and Pella Ministerial Association's Transient Fund.  We look forward to worshiping with you.
