Social Media Photo contest to be held during Tulip Time

Pella — Did you know that tulip bulbs were once used as currency? They were so expensive in Holland during the 1600s they were easily traded for other goods. Holland has been known as the “flower shop of the world” because it cultivates so many flowers, including tulips. Holland originally traded for tulip bulbs in the Dutch East Indies in the 16th century.

The Dutch have been very proud of their tulip beds for centuries. They brought that pride with them when they immigrated to the United States. Today, Pella alone plants over 350,000 tulip bulbs every year for the Tulip Time Festival.

Pella Historical is also hosting a Social Media Photo contest during Tulip Time 2014. This fun and easy contest is for anyone with a smart phone can participate in!
