Mathcounts is a middle school mathematics competition held in the United States. Its founding sponsors include the CNA Foundation, the National Society of Professional Engineers, and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The competition is designed for sixth, seventh, and eighth graders only.

The Pella Community GT students from the middle school competed at the MathCounts Regional Competition in Ottumwa in February. The Pella team placed second in the team category and advanced to MathCounts State Competition on March 21 at Drake University. The team members are Adam Smart, Garrett Johnson, Austin Adrian, Rebekah Fyfe. Three of Pella's Gifted and Talented students placed in the top 10 of the Individual Round: Isaiah Martin, Garrett Johnson, Austin Adrian. The final Individual Round wins were 1st place-Garrett Johnson and second place Austin Adrian.

At MathCounts State, Pella's team did well, but did not advance on to the national team. Highlights from State competition include hearing speaker Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds. All participants extend appreciation and thanks to the following 3M engineers: Andrew Stapleton, Ethan Berg, and Kelly Barnett for all of their help in making Pella successful regarding MathCounts.
