July 10 Vermeer Yellow Iron Academy Parent Information Sessions

Parents, learn about Vermeer's Yellow Iron Academy and see if it would be a good fit for your childcare needs. The Yellow Iron Academy offers childcare, kindergarten prep, after-school programs and summer camp for children ages 6 weeks through 12 years of age. Curriculum is flexible and individualized. The information sessions will be held both July 8 and 10 with information sessions at 3-4 pm and 5-6 pm each day at the Vermeer Global Pavilion. July 10 Thursdays in Pella: Joyride

This evening will feature vehicles that are more about the experience than the transportation! Hot air balloons, classic cars, motorcycles and more. Featuring cookie decorating, classic car and hot air balloon displays, crafts for kids, the Quay Thomas Trio performing, and many other fun activities. The fun starts at 6 pm in Central Park and will conclude with a city band performance at 8 pm. Activities are free or have very minimal cost.

 

 

July 11-12 Resurrected Tin's Bologna Nationals 2014

Come see the awesome cars at this year's 35th annual Resurrected Tin Bologna Nationals! With fantastic food, great giveaways, excellent entertainment, and tons of fun, you won't want to miss it! Head to South Overlook, Lake Red Rock Friday night from 5:30-9 pm, then Saturday morning from 9am-3:30pm the cars will be displaying in Downtown Pella. At 4pm Saturday the festivities continue through the evening at South Overlook. For more information, contact Ron at 641-780-0221. All events are open to the public, come check it out!

10:00 am Red Rock Balloonfest Rotary Family Bike Ride ($20/ individual + $15 for additional family member) - refreshments provided.

6:30 pm Evening Balloon Launch*. Music, food vendors and adult beverages for sale on the beach.

July 11 Pella Community Art Center presents Toddler Art Class

Come spend some time with your young child at the Art Center exploring fun art media. We will be doing a variety of age appropriate art activities that you wouldn't normally undertake at home! After we make a watercolor masterpiece we will make a ribbon necklace, personalize a picture holder and special mobiles, for ages 2 & up, caregiver is required to attend the class with the child, from 9-10 am, $6 resident, $7 non-resident, pre-registration is required at the Pella Community Center or call 641-628-4571 for more information.





July 11 Lake Red Rock presents "Survivor: Red Rock" Day Camps

Boys and Girls ages 11-12 years old: Have fun learning how to build a fire, make an emergency shelter, learn basic GPS skills, and paddle a canoe or kayak! Programs will be held from 10 am to 3 pm during each of the day camps offered. Group size is limited and pre-registration is required.  For more information or to register, contact the Corps of Engineers office at (641) 628-8690. (Note: Kayaking will be dependent on wind/weather conditions.)





July 11 Pella Community Art Center presents Assemblage Art Class

We will collect, arrange, discuss, build, and sculpt a piece of art that will transform cast-off materials into something that is like nothing else that has been made before.  Assemblage Art is a very stylize and personal art form that will make you look twice for ages 9 & up, from 10:30 am-noon, fee $6 resident, $7 non-resident, pre-registration is required at the Pella Community Center or call 628.4571 for more information.





July 11-12 Share What You Wear at Federated Fellowship

Share What You Wear is a FREE clothing giveaway being held at Federated Fellowship Church (309 Roosevelt Rd) on Friday, July 11 (3-7 pm) and Saturday, July 12 (8am-noon). Clothing for men, women, and children as well as bedding, shoes and free school supplies for the kids. EVERYONE is welcome to attend. New this year! Face painting and Bible stories for the children and a light breakfast to be served Saturday from 8-10 am (while supplies last). Questions? Contact Trisha Korns at 641-628-3668.





July 11 Fridays in Pella Open Air Art Studio

Artists under the Klokkenspiel from 5-7 pm will be working on paintings, pottery, fiber art and more. Come watch the artists in action and compete in fun competitions and join in on a community art project.





July 11 Lake Red Rock presents Night Time Adventures

July 12 Lake Red Rock Balloon Fest FUNdrasier Run and Pancake Breakfast

Sign up to run the Lake Red Rock Balloon Fest 5K & 10K FUNdraiser Run at 8 am. The race proceeds will support the Knoxville and Pella Community High Cross Country teams. The run starts at North Overlook Beach and follows the Volksweg Trail. There will be a NEW route and team competition this year. Go to www.getmeregistered.com (event id # 10756) to sign up!  Pancake breakfast and T-shirt included in registration fee.  Pancake breakfast will be available for purchase, $5 starting at 7 am for spectators.        



July 12 Lake Red Rock presents Lets Go Paddling

Enjoy this chance to experience both canoeing and kayaking in the same day! Give one or both types of watercraft a try and see how much fun paddling can be! (You must be at least 10 years old to use kayaks.  Life jackets will be provided. Programs may be cancelled if inclement weather/wind conditions.) From 9-11 am at North Overlook Beach. Questions? July 12 Tassel Ridge Winery's Wine and Burger Night

Enjoy the flavors of Spain with a Chorizo/Beef Burger with Pico Salsa, Queso Fresco, and Avocado on a Kaiser Bun served with a side of Spanish Spiced Potato Wedges and a glass of your favorite Tassel Ridge wine (we recommend Iowa Marquette Rosé). For dessert, indulge in a trio of Tassel Ridge Finalé Bonbons made by Chocolaterie Stam especially for the Winery. The fillings are made with Tassel Ridge Finalé wines. July 13 Lake Red Rock presents Lets Go Muddin'!

Who doesn't love to get down and dirty in the outdoors!? In this program, go on a quest to discover all sorts of creatures which like to live in dirty environments, such as under rocks and logs, in the dirt, and in wetlands. July 14-18 Pella Historical Village presents Dutch Day Camp

July 14 Pella Community Art Center presents 3D Drawings Class

Amaze your family and friends with this fun way of tricking the eye. We will be story telling on camera. We will be making cartoon style paper houses that each have their own personality depending on how you design them! Do you enjoy painting? Then you will want to join us as we explore new ways of painting. July 16 Art Center in the Park at Lions Park

One of the Art Center's most popular programs designed to put art where kids are. Art Center staff will bring a plethora of art supplies to the parks. They work with students to make anything and everything. Last summer kids and adults made jewelry, paintings, drawings, collages, wood sculpture, books, and hats. July 16 Lake Red Rock presents Hunt Like an Animal!

July 17 Pella Community Art Center presents Watercolor & Animals Class

Do you like animals? Do you like water-coloring?  Well here is a fun painting class that you will love! July 17 Thursdays in Pella: Bugs n' Blooms

Head downtown for Thursdays in Pella! This Thursday evening will be all about outdoor games and gardening! Enter or enjoy the entries for the Chairs in Bloom contest (unique flower arrangements with chairs), Kermis festival games for kids, and other great outdoor and garden themed activities! Also featuring entertainment, activities for kids, food vendors, displays, and more. Each Thursday activities begin at 6 pm and will conclude with a city band performance at 8 pm. Activities are free or have very minimal cost.





July 19 Tassel Ridge Winery's Red Wine Lovers' Dinner and Tasting

Join us for a very special dinner evening beginning at 6 pm with a visit to the cellar where Jonita will take tastes of our 2012 Tawny Finalé and 2013 Tawny Finalé directly from the barrels. We will discuss how this wine is made, and you will be able to see the difference one year of barrel ageing makes. Dinner (at 6:30 pm) will feature glasses of 2009, 2010, and 2012 Iowa Marquette. Our meal will start with a Spinach and Arugula Salad with Dried Cherries, Goat Cheese, and Toasted Walnuts with a Lemon Poppy Seed Dressing. The entrée will be a Roasted Petite Shoulder Tender with a Crispy Polenta Cake and Seasonal Vegetables. For dessert, we will serve our new Chocolate Granfinalé Bread Pudding. Jonita will share with us the difference in wine making techniques used on the 2009, 2010, and 2012 vintages. Advance prepaid, non-refundable reservations required by Thursday, July 17. How are your Perennials looking? Needing some help or tips on making the maximum plant performance? July 19 De Bloemen Hof presents Kids Garden Club

Scavenger Hunt with trees. We will go around find and identify trees and learn something about them. At the end of the hunt are some games and planting of a tree in a pot to take home.
