PCHS to host annual City-Wide Speech Night

The Pella Chronicle

---- — Pella Christian High School will host the seventh annual City-Wide Speech Night on Saturday evening, February 1, 2014 at 7 p.m., in Vermeer Auditorium. The festival will showcase all the 2014 Large Group Speech events of both city high schools — Pella Community and Pella Christian High. A free-will donation will be taken.

Pella Christian High’s speech program is under the direction of Marlo Van Peursem with assistance by Lisa Van Gilst and Pella High’s speech program is under the direction of Suzi Jones with assistance by Ashlee Whittington.

“It is always been a great evening for our two schools to get together on this night,” said Van Peursem. “We encourage the community to come out and watch the performances.”

The fine arts evening will include events from both schools in Readers Theatre, Choral Readers, Ensemble Acting, Musical Theatre, and Improv. Events will follow one after the other in two different centers at Pella Christian.

The night will also include a performance from each school’s one-act entry. Pella High will be performing the one-act It’s a Wonderful Life and Pella Christian will perform The 11th for their one-act.

“These students have a lot in common and it’s always great to see them build friendships across the schools and support each other,” said Van Peursem.

Both schools competed last week Saturday, January 25, at Pleasantville High School in the Iowa High School Speech Association’s District Speech tournament. Those events that received Division I ratings will advance to the State tournament on Saturday, February 8 at Linn- Mar High School in Marion.
