Pella representatives attend 2012 Iowa Tourism Conference

Pella — Carla Eysink, Director Marion County Development Commission; Jill Vandevoort, Director of the Pella Convention & Visitors Bureau; Bonnie Verburg, Director Vermeer Mill & Interpretive Center; and Scott Reuter, General Manager  of the Bos Landen Golf Course, recently attended the 2012 Iowa Tourism Conference in Altoona. The annual three-day conference brings together more than 250 industry representatives from across the state to network, attend educational sessions and discuss emerging industry trends. The event was sponsored by the Iowa Tourism Office and the Travel Federation of Iowa.

Travel expenditures left in Marion County continues to rise as a recent study showed an increase, to just shy of $46 million brought in during 2011, up 13+% from last year. Those  dollars provide $2.18 million in state sales tax receipts as well as local tax receipts  placing Marion County as 24th highest tourism-revenue county in Iowa.

Tourism in Iowa generates more than $7 billion in expenditures, employs 63,400 people statewide and generates $328 million in state taxes.
