Pella — November 9 De Bloemen Hof Holiday After Hours

Attend this fun pre-holiday Business After Hours.  Its a great  time to network with other Chamber members and a great opportunity to see first-hand the offerings that are available from De Bloemen Hof. 4-6 pm.

November 9 Central College presents Vocal/ Instrumental Combos Concert

Concert begins at 8 pm, Central's Cox-Snow Recital Hall. Free and open to public.

November 10 Pella High Craft Show and Vendor Fair

The Pella Community High School Band Parent Organization Presents the Annual Pella Fall Craft and Vendor Fair. Located at the Pella Community High School Gym (212 University Street, Pella), will feature more than 100 craft vendors. Childcare available (free will donation), concessions, and $1 admission. November 10 The History and Evolution of Pressing and Ironing

Patty Rowland's presentation will focus on the evolution of ironing devices through-out history- from the use of Chinese pan irons in the first century B.C. to ~1000 A.D. and the use of slickenstones by the Vikings to the Scandinavian mangle boards in the 1500's, followed by more "modern" irons that your grandmother may have used.  A display of and discussion about many of the irons in her collection will follow the presentation. 2-3 pm at Pella Public Library Meeting Room. November 11 Central College's Sunday Concert Series

College-Community Chorus and College-Community Orchestra, Douwstra Auditorium, 4 pm. Open to the public.

November 12 Central College's Mills Gallery Exhibit

Husband and wife duo Dukno Yoon and Heather Bayless will exhibit their works in the Mills Gallery from November 12 - December 14. The pair will give an artist talk on Monday, Nov. 12 at 5 pm in the gallery. The couple works with metal structures. Their work can be seen during gallery hours, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

November 12 Central College presents Stephen Prothero

Author and professor in the department of religion at Boston University speaks on "God Is Not One: The Eight Rival Religions that Run the World."  Lecture at Central's Graham Banquet Hall,  7 pm.

November 13 Art Center Special

Pella Community Art Center for high school ages through adults only, 7-9 pm. Making jewelry holders. $2 students/3$ adults.  Enter through north door.

November 13 Central College presents Flute Ensemble

Argento Fuoco, flute ensemble, Upper Chapel (Central College) at 7 pm, free to attend.

November 14 Main Street Ministries Lunch N Learn

Join us for a great time of food and friends. The Main Street Ministries Lunch-n-Learn gatherings are casual lunch meetings designed to help you meet other believers in the workplace, learn to live your faith at work, share testimonies, and encourage others like you. Held at Veel Hoeden Conference Room (709 Main Street), 12-1 pm. Topic will be on Accountability. Cost of lunch is $5. 641-629-0634 with any questions.

November 14 & 15 "Finding Kind" Documentary Viewing

This powerfully impactful documentary, brought to you by Pella Corporation's Moxie, helps bring awareness to the effects of words and actions within "girl-world", as well as create a way to move beyond its grasp. All women, including young women (middle school to college age), are encouraged to attend this moving reflection on the power of words! Free of charge for everyone in the community. Don't miss this awesome opportunity! Pella Christian High School Auditorium November 14, 6:30 to 8:30 pm, and Pella Community High School Auditorium November 15, 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

November 14- 17 Central College's Theater Central performs "A Servant to Two Masters"

Theatre Central presents the classic Italian comedy "A Servant to Two Masters" as the final large performance of the fall season. The show will run Nov. 14-17 at 7:30 pm at the Pella Opera House. A play of mistaken identities, reunited lovers and slapstick comedy, "A Servant to Two Masters" is full of plot twists sure to entertain all ages. The production follows the servant Truffaldino as he juggles two masters, with mayhem breaking lose. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $6 for students and senior citizens and free with a Central ID. Tickets are available at the Pella Opera House or at the information booth in the Maytag Student Center.

On Friday, Nov. 15, Theatre Central alumni are invited for Alumni Night at the Opera House before and after the curtain closes. A cash bar will be available. The Friends of the Central Arts will be also hosting a reception after the show.

November 15 Central College presents James Farrell, Sustainability Advocate

James Farrell, professor of history, American studies, environmental studies and American conversations at St. Olaf College, will visit Central College on November 15. Farrell will host a convocation at 11 am in Douwstra Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public."The Nature of College: Campus Culture, Consumer Culture and the Environment," examines everyday life on college campuses.


November 15 WorkSystems presents Exercise to KICK the Winter Blues Class

Winter can cause moodiness, fatigue, increased stress levels, colds and flu. What type of exercise will best help KICK the winter blues? Come hear Darren McGriff, the Work Systems Pella Fitness Facility Manager/Personal Trainer, as he explains why exercise is crucial in decreasing moodiness, fatigue, increased stress levels,  colds and flu, especially during the winter months! November 15 Bingo Night

Have fun playing Bingo! Proceeds benefit St. Mary's Catholic Church. Children 10-17 welcome with an adult. Held every Thursday from 6:30-9 pm at 1203 Peace Street (old church). November 15 Central College presents Mary Swander, Poet Laureate of Iowa

Central College welcomes Mary Swander, poet laureate of Iowa, to the Writers Reading series on November 15. Swander will read from her latest book of poetry, "The Girls on the Roof," in the Geisler Library reading room at 7:30 pm. The reading is free and open to the public. "The Girls on the Roof" is a long narrative poem about a mother and daughter isolated on the roof of a café on the banks of the Mississippi River during the flooding of 1993. She is the author of three other books of poetry, including "Heaven-and-Earth House," "Driving the Body Back" and "Succession." She is also the author of two memoirs.


November 16 Hoedown to Help  
Faith CRC Project Serve Group is hosting an old-fashioned hoedown, 6:30-9:30 pm, Pella Christian Grade School gym. Square dancing and socializing for the whole family, learn as you go. Drinks and desserts. Freewill donation for mission trips.

November 16 Central College presents Jazz Concert

Cyrille Aimee Jazz Quartet with Central's Jazz Band, 8 pm, Central's Cox-Snow Recital Hall, $10 or free with Central ID.

November 16- December 1 Festival of Trees: Its a Wonderful Life

Warm up amid the twinkling displays, available for purchase, that transform the Pella Opera House into a merry holiday wonderland! An annual fundraiser for  children's theatre programming. Ticket price is a free-will donation. Schedule: November 16-December 1 from 10 am to 6 pm. November 16, Opening Night: open until 8 pm. November 19, Family Night: open until 8 pm. December 1- open until 2 pm. Closed Sundays and Thanksgiving Day. 



Now- November 15 Scholte House Presents Civil War Exhibit

Come learn about Marion County's Civil War history! 10 regiments from the Marion County area are featured, along with the connection between Abraham Lincoln and Pella's founder Dominie Scholte. Also discussed is women's role in the war, the Andersonville Prison, the Rutman brothers, as well as an interactive children's room, children's essays and memorabilia. The exhibit is running September 15 through November 15. Admission is FREE thanks to a grant from the Pella Community Foundation. Regular hours are 1-4 pm Monday-Friday, with extended hours til 8 pm on Thursdays. Saturday extended hours are 10 am-5pm.
