Volunteers help Gosselink's recovery

Pella — LifeLine Pilots, a volunteer pilot organization, took off from the Pella airport on Monday morning with Jacob Gosselink, a 4-year-old boy from just outside of Pella, and his parents, Todd and Barb, to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is one of the world’s most respected centers devoted exclusively to cancer patient care, research, education and prevention.

Jacob, who just recently went through brian surgery to remove a tumor at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, will receive proton therapy while in Houston. Todd commented that the MD Anderson Cancer Center is one of only two facilities to offer this therapy.

"The surgery went well, Todd said." We have been blessed the whole time and all of this moved so fast. It's been one miracle after another - including this flight down (to Houston)."

John Hinshaw, a volunteer pilot for LifeLine Pilots, came from Indiana on Monday morning to Pella and also flew his plane on to Houston. According to Shelly L. Livengood, Development Coordinator of LifeLine Pilots, usually the flights are shared between pilots, from stop to stop, but in this case Hinshaw agreed to fly the whole way.
