August 9 Young Professionals host Friday After 5

Live Bands + Patio + Drinks + Summer + Great Company = A great way to end the week! Young Professionals of Pella are hosting this event, but anyone age 21+ are encouraged to attend! Bring a friend or make new ones. $5 admission covers live music and appetizers; cash bar available. Faraday's Law will be entertaining the crowd with covers of rock favorites like Journey, Kansas, Styx and the Black Keys. 

  

  

August 9 Tassel Ridge Winery presents Wine & Burger Night

It's Classic Bistro Night! Tonight's burger is a Merlot Mushroom and Swiss Burger topped with Merlot Mushroom Sauce, made with Tassel Ridge American Merlot, and Swiss Cheese and served on a Kaiser Bun with a side of House Potato Wedges and a glass of your favorite Tassel Ridge wine (we recommend Tassel Ridge American Merlot). For dessert, cool off with Chocolaterie Stam's refreshing Wine Gelato made with a specially selected Tassel Ridge wine. From 5:30-7:30 PM (Burgers served til 7 PM). August 9 Red Rock Lake presents Evening Paddle to Hickory Ridge

Join a park ranger for a leisurely paddle to the Hickory Ridge Wilderness Campground.  Bring your own kayak or borrow one from us free of charge!  Meet at Whitebreast Boat Ramp at 5:15 pm. A limited number of kayaks are available, so pre-registration is needed. Must be at least 16 years old to participate, and adults must accompany minors.  Call the Corps of Engineers office at (641) 828-7522 or (641) 628-8690 to register or for more information.





August 10 Lake Red Rock presents Red Rock: The Town Beneath the Lake

The town of Red Rock was once a thriving, industrious community and home to many colorful, pioneering people.  Once hopeful that the Red Rock Dam would save them from the Des Moines River's frequent flooding, it eventually sealed their fate.  Join a park ranger to catch a glimpse of this historic settlement now lying beneath the waters of the lake! Meet at Red Rock Visitor Center at 10 am. Free, no reservation needed. Call 641-628-8690 with questions.





August 10 Lake Red Rock presents Lets Go Fly a Kite!

Catch the breeze off Lake Red Rock for some great kite flying fun!  Bring your own kite or borrow one free of charge at the event (limited number of kites available).  Kites can also be purchased from the Red Rock Visitor Center. Meet at North Overlook Beach at 1 pm. Free, no reservations needed. Call 641-628-8690 with questions.





August 11 Lake Red Rock presents Tour the Bridges of Marion County

Many key structures were build along the Des Moines River and other tributaries to ensure that traffic flows from Point A to Point B. The Horn's Ferry Bridge was the first bridge to cross the Des Moines River when it was built in 1881.  Join the Rural History Buffs of Marion County to learn about this bridge and talk about its history, its tragic demise, and the courage of the county to save what was left of it for generations to come.  A tour of the county's bridges will follow this gathering. Meet at Red Rock Visitor Center at 2:30 pm, free, no reservations needed. Call 641-628-8690 with questions.





August 13 Pella Community Art Center Adult Class

August 14 Lake Red Rock presents Family Time at the Beach

Bring the kids out to North Overlook Beach for some fun crafts in and on the sand!  All ages welcome.  Free, activities at 1 pm.
