February 20 Sensory Processing: Its Impact on Learning and Behavior in Kids class

Elise Spronk, Occupational Therapist for Work Systems Fitness and Rehab will discuss the following:  the four distinct sensory preferences categories including characteristics and recommendations; triggers that may contribute to behavioral issues with children; and strategies to help calm or alert your child for optimal functioning. February 20 Faith CRC presents Annual Pulled Pork Supper  BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, yummy side dishes and homemade desserts, plus raising money for mission trips are all great reasons to attend. From 5-7 pm at Faith CRC (on the corner of E 12th and University). Free will offering.





February 22 Pella Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting

Join us at Central College's Graham Conference Center from 7-8:30 am in celebration of our Hall of Fame Excellence Award Recipients; the accomplishments and program of work for the Chamber in 2013; and learn about the Pella Community School Systems Facilities Plan in 2013. February 22 MOMS Club of Pella Open House

If you are a stay at home mom or part time at home mom be sure to stop by the Fun Factory at Work Systems Fitness & Rehab (behind Hy-Vee) between 10-11:30 am and check out the MOMS Club of Pella.  We are a daytime support group for at home moms.  Meet our members and check out the activities our group does throughout the year.  Kids are welcome to play in the Fun Factory while you chat with our group. February 22 Pella Corporation's 7th Annual Laurel & Hardy Grudge Run

All proceeds from run benefit JDRF. Will take place at 2 pm at the Pella Christian High School Outdoor Track. Two events: First is a team relay race, group of 6 with each member running one 400 meter lap (quarter mile). All athletic abilities welcome. Second event is optional, following relay:  individual 5k competition. Recommended donation is $25 for participants, free-will donation for spectators, additional $10 for T-shirt. February 23 Winters Wonders Snowshoe Hike

Getting cabin fever yet?  Strap on a pair of snowshoes and get outside! Join a park ranger on a quest for winter wildlife and the signs they leave behind, and search for animal tracks, insect galls and other clues.  There is a lot happening outdoors even during wintertime....if you know where to look! Meet at 9 am at the North Overlook Picnic Area. After the program, meet back at the picnic shelter for a cup of hot cocoa by the fireplace!  Snowshoes will be available to borrow at the program, but if you have your own pair, please bring them along (limited number of adult-size snowshoes available).  The hike will last about an hour. (NOTE:  Program will be cancelled if there isn't enough snow).  For more information, contact the Corps of Engineers office at (641) 828-7522 or (641) 628-8690





February 23 Hearts For Hospice Dinner and Auction

Hospice of Pella invites you for an evening of fun at Bos Landen Golf Club from 5-8 pm. Will feature a formal dinner, Silent Auction, music, and speakers. Now-February 14 Central College presents Sculpture Exhibit "Extended Play"

Mills Gallery at Central College will host sculptures by Shaila Christofferson. The exhibit, titled "Extended Play," examines material culture and the contemporary landscape through sculpture media. Christofferson will speak at an artist reception in the gallery on Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. The exhibit is free
and open to the public, gallery is open Monday-Friday 9 am- 5 pm.   

  

February 20 - March 22 Central College presents painter John Preston (Gallery)

Artist John Preston will be displaying his landscape paintings in the Central College Mills Gallery starting Feb. 20. Originally from the east coast, Preston moved to Fairfield, Iowa, to study in 1984. His popular landscapes derive from Jefferson and Van Buren counties, featuring fields, tree islands, fence rows and paths of gravel curving over prairies. The paintings are back dropped against a variety of weather events from his observations, memories and imagination. The exhibit will be open until March 22. In addition to his work in the gallery, Preston will host an artist talk and reception on March 27 at 5 pm. Preston's work can be seen during gallery hours, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. The exhibit is free and open to the public.  

 

Ongoing: Thursday Bingo Night

Have fun playing Bingo! Proceeds benefit St. Mary's Catholic Church. Children 10-17 welcome with an adult. Bingo is held every Thursday from 6:30-9 pm at 1203 Peace Street (old church). Game prices range from $0.50 to 2.00 a game or $17 for a game packet. For more information contact Peggy Moriarity at 641-628-1549.
