Pella — March 12- April 28 Pella Recreation Center presents Couch to Klompen

March 13 Central College presents Writers Reading with Bob Hicok

Bob Hicok reads from his recent work. Hicok is associate professor of English at Virginia Tech. He is a finalist for the National Book Critics award for his recent book of poetry, "Elegy Owed." Free and open to the public at Central College's Cox-Snow Recital Hall at 7:30 pm.





March 14 Pella Opera House's Film Series: The Quiet Man

A classic for St. Patrick's Day! Featuring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. Free admission; popcorn and water $1 each. 7 pm at the Pella Opera House.





March 15-16 Tassel Ridge Winery's Wine & Chocolate Pairing

Shamrocks and leprechauns are a traditional pairing in March, but at Tassel Ridge Winery you'll find that a Wine & Chocolate Pairing is much tastier! We've paired four Tassel Ridge wines with four different chocolates from Chocolaterie Stam (sorry, none of them are green). Taste all four and find your favorite pairing(s)! From 10am-6pm Saturday, and 12-6 pm Sunday. Price is $10 per person, plus tax (Harvest Club Member & 1 guest price $5 per person plus tax).





March 15 Pella Historical Village's Grand Re-Opening!

Kick off spring break at the Pella Historical Museum Grand Reopening! We will be celebrating "Spring Break in Pella's Backyard" showcasing our new Puppet Theater Studio, Music Activity Room and Discovery Studio for young history researchers. Come and paint the sails! Donate $1 per person and paint a tulip, handprint or freehand tulip on the windmill sails. These painted sails will be flown during Tulip Time 2014! From 9 am - 5 pm, ribbon cutting at noon. Cost is $8 for families, $5 for individuals and free for members.





March 16 Enoch Fernando of Piano Praise International at First Baptist Church

Join First Baptist Church at 9:30 am for a FREE "Love Offering" performance by Enoch Fernando of Piano Praise International! His music will touch your heart and move your soul. Enoch has been seen by over a million people worldwide. He has been nominated for two Grammy awards. You will be inspired by his testimony and artistic mastery of the piano. March 18-19 Pella Recreation Center presents Spring Break 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament


Stay active this spring break with a 3 on 3 basketball tournament at Pella Rec Center. Ages 13 and under will play March 18th at 11 am. Ages 14-18 will play March 19 at 11 am. $30 per team, contact 641-628-4622 for the front desk or Darren McGriff at 641-780-6421/ darrenm@pellarec.com.





March 20 Young Professionals at Tassel Ridge Winery

Join YP of Pella from 7-9pm as we get out of town and go to Tassel Ridge Winery for a great night of fun!  Get to know a new friend or learn something about an old one while playing Get to Know You BINGO.  Win fabulous prizes such as a free whirlpool suite hotel stay or a gift certificate to a Pella area business- just to name a couple!! There will be complimentary cheeses, crackers, breads, and dipping oils to try throughout the evening.  Iced tea and water will be provided, while soft drinks or wine will be available for purchase.  All individuals in their 20's and 30's living or working in the Pella area are encouraged and invited to attend! Don't miss this enjoyable evening! Tassel Ridge is located at 1681 220th Street near Leighton, IA. From Pella, drive southeast on Highway 163 and turn right at 220th Street.  Drive west on 220th about 0.7 miles from the Highway and the winery will be on the right.

ONGOING EVENTS & REGISTRATIONS:


Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Fry 

Enjoy a delicious meal Friday nights during Lent, excluding Good Friday (March 7, 14, 21,28, Apr 4, 11). The fry will take place at St Mary's Catholic Church, 726 218th Place, Pella (north of Walmart), and includes Fried Cod, Baked Tilapia, Baked Potato or French Fries, Corn or Green Beans, Drink, and many Homemade Desserts. Cost is $8 for Adults, $5 for Children, or $25 per Family. Dine In or Carryout Available.  

 

Now- April 3 Pella Little Tyke Soccer Registration  

The Pella Community Services Department is taking registrations for Little Tyke Soccer for boys and girls who will be attending kindergarten in the fall of 2014. Central College coaches and players will instruct the very basic skills of soccer: Dribbling, passing and kicking. Program dates are March 29, April 5, 12, and 26 from 10am- 10:45 am in the fileds on the north side of Truman Rd. Cost is $20 those living within city limits and $24 for those outside city limits. Go to the Community Services Offices in the Pella Community Center to register, 712 Union Street. Office hours are 7:30-11:30 am and 12:30-4:30pm Monday- Friday.   

 

January 23- March 28 Young Artist Exhibition at Joan Kuyper Farver Art Gallery

The 23rd Annual Exhibit of Young Artists at the Pella Community Center's Joan Kuyper Farver Gallery is now open! This exhibit displays some of the imaginative and creative artworks that students from Pella Community Schools, Pella Christian Schools and the Art Center Programs at the Pella Community Center have created last semester. It is a bright and wonderful show. Gallery hours are Monday- Friday from 7:30 am to 4:15 pm, on the second floor of the Pella Community Center, 712 Union Street.  



Thursday Night Bingo

Have fun playing Bingo! Proceeds benefit St. Mary's Catholic Church. Children 10-17 welcome with an adult. Bingo is held every Thursday from 6:30-8:30 pm at 1203 Peace Street (old church). Game prices range from $1.00 to $2.00 a game or $15 for a game packet. For more information contact Peggy Moriarity at 641-628-1549.
