Vriendschap Village celebrates State Fair

“Nothing compares” to the Iowa State Fair but Vriendschap Village Retirement Community of Pella came close.

As the Iowa State Fair kicked off on August 8, residents celebrated with a day of traditional fairgoer activities, including trying their hand at carving likenesses of cows, horses and goats from butter and enjoying fair-inspired foods on-a-stick.

“The Iowa State Fair is such an exciting time and we wanted to bring a taste of the fair here — literally!” said Executive Director Brenda Colvin. “Residents had a great time sculpting their own miniature versions of the butter cow, as smaller replicas of the State Fair’s life-size butter cow, and reminiscing on family trips to the State Fair.”
