June 14- July 5 FREE Meals for Kids

A free lunch for children and youth will be offered in the gazebo area of the Burbank Village apartments, 408 East 13th Street in Pella, every Monday through Friday, from noon to 12:30 PM, beginning on June 17.  The simple sack lunch may be eaten there or taken away to be eaten elsewhere.  All kids and youth are welcome. There are no qualifications, no questions, just lunch. Questions? Contact 641-628-3892. Sponsored by Second Reformed Church of Pella.





July 3 Holiday Garbage Pick-Up

Pella residents who normally have Thursday garbage pick-up will be scheduled for Wednesday pick-up instead due to the Fourth of July holiday. Please have garbage at the curb by 7 am. All other pick-up days will remain as normally scheduled.



   

July 4 Independence Day Festivities in Pella!

Schedule of Events:

· 9:30-11:30 Fishing and Art in the Park at Caldwell Park (fishing poles, bait, and art supplies provided)

· 10:00-1:00 Tours of Vermeer Windmill, Garden, and gift shop; Tours of Scholte House and Gardens (serving lemonade and cookies)

· 11:00-1:00 Pony rides in Central Park

· 11:00-1:00 Games and Activities in Central Park (Frog jumping contests, ladder golf, gunny sack races, Badminton, Bean Bag toss, dunk tank, inflatables- sponsored by Marion County Bank)

· 1:30-3:00 Parade down Franklin Street (Note change of time) from Scholte Church to West Market

· 4:00-7:00 Swimming at Aquatic Center

· 6:00-8:00 Entertainment in Central Park at Tulip Toren- City Band and Singers

· 9:30 Fireworks- lit east of Madison School

· All day: Patriotic music & food stands

July 4 Peace Lutheran Church presents Fireworks and Ice Cream Social    Enjoy root beer floats, brownie sundaes and the fireworks. Free will donation, all proceeds to fund Peace Lutheran's Tanzanian AIDS Orphan Tuition Ministry. 8:30 pm at Peace Lutheran Church.





July 6 Pella Opera House presents film "Grease"

Head to the Pella Opera House for this classic interactive film! Cash bar opens at 5:30, film at 6 pm. Water and popcorn $1. Call 628-8625 for tickets and additional information.





July 9 Hearthstone presents Music on the Lawn

Lift your hearts to the instrumental sounds of "Marlo Van Klompenburg" on the Fair Haven East front lawn at 6:30 pm. Admission is free, refreshments provided, please bring your own seating. The concert will be moved inside to the Pella Manor Social Room in the event of rain. For more information, please contact 641-628-1244.





July 11: The Air, the Rare, the Fair on the Square

Help us kick off the weekend festivities with themes from the Lake Red Rock Balloon Fest, Resurrected Tin's Bologna Nationals, and the Marion County Fair. Kermis games, cookie decorating, a preview of classic cars, photo opportunities, meet and greets with pilots, remote control car obstacle course (please bring your own cars), watermelon eating contest (register at 641-628-2626) and more! Don't miss it!

  

 

July 12-14 Lake Red Rock Balloon Fest

Come enjoy the beauty of hot air balloons as they lift off and participate in several races over the course of this weekend! Times are approximate and are dependent on weather conditions.

July 12-13 Resurrected Tin's Bologna Nationals 2013

Come see the awesome cars at this year's 34th annual Resurrected Tin Bologna Nationals! With fantastic food, great giveaways, excellent entertainment, and tons of fun, you won't want to miss it! Friday's events will be held at Lake Red Rock's South Overlook. Registration will be from 5:30 to 9:30 pm with a bologna dog roast from 6:30 to 9 pm. Will feature live entertainment, NSRA inspections, games and giveaways. Saturday's early events will be held in unique downtown Pella with registration from 9 am to 3:30 pm and show & shine from 9 am- 3:30 pm. There will be food vendors, NSRA inspections, giveaways and games, and then move back to South Overlook for Sunshine at 4 pm, World Famous Meal at 5:30 pm, awards at 6:30 pm and giveaways throughout the evening. Car registration is $20 if postmarked before July 1, or $25 after July 1. The first 50  entries receive a free Bologna Nats T-shirt. All events are open to the public, come check it out!

July 12 Marion County Fair presents Hairball

Marion County Fair presents acclaimed show Hairball, a bombastic celebration of Arena Rock! With special guests 3rd Generation. Gates open at 3 pm, concert starts at 7 pm. Ticket prices: Adult Advance Tickets $15, $20 day of event. Kids age 5-14 advance tickets $10, $15 day of. Kids 5 and under free. July 12-13 Federated Fellowship presents Share What You Wear

The 5th annual Share What You Wear event is July 12 (3-7pm) & 13 (8am-noon) at Federated Fellowship Church (309 Roosevelt Rd in Pella)! Donations are being taken through July 1 and can be dropped off at Federated between 8am-4pm. You won't want to miss this FREE clothing giveaway where you can find children's clothes, adult clothes, school supplies, bedding, and outerwear. New items put out hourly until supplies run out. July 13 De Bloemen Hof presents All About Herbs!

Each night features a different theme, entertainment, food vendors, city band concerts, and lots of fun for the whole family. The themes for the evenings are as follows:

Pella Farmer's Market

Pella's Farmer's Market is held at First Reformed Church every Thursday from 3-6 pm and Saturday from 9am-12pm. Great plants and spring products!  Some new vendors- and trusted veterans, too!

NOTE: THIS WEEK'S FARMERS MARKET WILL BE WEDNESDAY INSTEAD OF THURSDAY DUE TO FOURTH OF JULY HOLIDAY. 




Art in the Park

Let kids explore their creative side! City staff will bring all the supplies for kids to express and create a project. $2/child from 9:30-11 am.

June 18- September 20 Joyce Kolenbrander Exhibition at the Joan Kuyper Farver Gallery  

Joyce Kolenbrander is a Chicago native who has lived, worked and shown art in New York (Including at the Agora Gallery in Soho), New Jersey, Illinois and Iowa. Now retired, she lives and works in Pella, Iowa. She works with ink, oil, graphite, watercolor, montage, wood and photography- whatever a given subject seems to require. Her work will be on display at the Joan Kuyper Farver Art Gallery from June 18-September 20, with the gallery open M-F from 7:30 am to 4:15 pm.

RAGBRAI

Iowa's famous annual week-long bike ride across Iowa will be passing through Pella on Thursday, July 25! You won't want to miss the sight of these bikers nor the entertainment, vendors, and music of the day. Whether you are volunteering or just hanging out, it will be a really good time!
