Middle School proposalgoes to PCHS Society for vote

Recently the Pella Christian High School Board made a motion to bring the following proposal to the PCHS Society for societal vote at a special society meeting to be held March 6, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the PCHS Vermeer Auditorium.

-Pella Christian Grade School (PCGS) Society be authorized to construct a 7/8 grade facility on the Pella Christian High School (PCHS) campus.

-The middle school students would remain students of PCGS and PCGS would be financially and constitutionally responsible for all aspects of the school. -PCGS would be responsible to manage the capital campaign(s) needed to raise the funds necessary to construct the new facility.

-PCHS would be involved in every aspect of the design and construction of this new middle school facility.

-Once operational, PCHS would be responsible to manage and maintain the physical plant aspects of the facility. PCGS would share in proportionate costs for the day-to-day operations of the middle school facility and be responsible for any asset repair/replacement costs while the facility functions as a PCGS middle school.

-To the extent staffing and administrative resources are shared, those costs would be divided to the respective budgets in much the same way that it is currently done.

-Ten percent of the final construction estimate for this project would be determined (set amount TBD), raised, and provided to PCHS. 50 percent of these funds would then be used to reimburse lost tuition revenue to sister schools for students who do transfer to PCGS middle school. The other 50 percent of these funds would be placed in an asset replacement fund (see Appendix F for details)

-A “99 year lease” would be established ensuring PCGS the ongoing right to operate a middle school at the high school campus. The cost of this lease would be set at $1 per year.

-Should PCHS ever become a 7-12 system (assuming support from the PCGS board and society for such a systemic change), all of the assets related to the middle school would be transferred to and become the assets of PCHS.
