Pella — November 29 Bingo Night

Have fun playing Bingo! Proceeds benefit St. Mary's Catholic Church. Children 10-17 welcome with an adult. It is held every Thursday from 6:30-9 pm at 1203 Peace Street (old church). Game prices range from $0.50 to 2.00 a game or $17 for a game packet. For more information contact Peggy Moriarity at 641-628-1549.

November 29 Central College presents NPR reporter

The Central College Writers Reading series will host Rob Dillard, a Des Moines based correspondent for Iowa Public Radio (IPR). Dillard formerly taught news writing at Central. Unlike other Writers Reading sessions, Dillard will be playing snippets of his writing as recorded on IPR, particularly his "Being in Iowa" series. Dillard will be on campus Nov. 29 and will speak in the Geisler Reading Room at 7:30 pm. The event is free and open to the public.





November 30 - December 9 Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Union Street Players will present Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat this Christmas season at the Pella Community Center on Friday, Nov. 30, Saturday, Dec. 1, Thursday, Dec. 6 and Friday, Dec. 7 at 7 pm plus matinees on Sunday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2 pm. This Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock 'n' roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless. Tickets will be available for online ordering three weeks prior to the show at www.unionstreetplayers.com.





November 30 Visit Santa on the Square and Horse Drawn Carriage Rides!

FREE carriage rides sponsored by the Pella Chamber of Commerce, and make sure to stop and see Santa before he heads back to the North Pole! From 5-7 at the Information Windmill.





November 30 Dueling Pianos at Bos Landen

Enjoy a fun filled evening with music that will guarantee you have a good time. $40/person will include dinner and entertainment.  Cocktail Hour will start at 6pm with dinner starting at 7pm and entertainment starting at 8-10pm.  Please call to reserve your spot.  641-628-4625.





November 30 Pella Opera House presents the Wizard of Oz 

Follow the yellow brick road this holiday season! Dress up as a character from the film and enjoy the show for free! Audience participation encouraged. $5 to attend (without costume). 7 pm.





December 1 Live Nativity Scene and Photo Opportunity

"Step into the Stable" and participate in a live Nativity scene at Second Reformed Church on the corner of Broadway and Liberty from 1-4 pm. Costumes will be available for children to wear as they join Mary, Joseph and live farm animals for a manger moment. Or parents can fill in as Mary and Joseph as families create their own scene. It's a free Christmas photo opportunity as there is no admission charge. Hot chocolate and cookies will also be provided a few steps away inside the church's Gathering Space.





December 1 Flying Pans Caribbean Christmas

Enjoy the holiday sounds of this steel band's Christmas concert at Central's Graham Banquet Hall, 7:30 pm. Admission is $5 or an unwrapped new toy for Toys for Tots.





December 1 The Tulip Tea Room's Traditional Christmas Tea  A unique holiday experience! This traditional 3 course Christmas Tea will have seatings at noon and 2:30 pm. Reservations are required, call 620-9036. The Tulip Tea Room is located at 918 Main Street.





December 2 Steve Green Christmas Concert

Get in the Christmas Spirit at the Steve Green Christmas Concert! 2 pm at  Pella Christian High School's  Vermeer Auditorium.  Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.  You may purchase tickets at the Sanctuary Coffeehouse Christian Books and Gifts or by calling Patty Zylstra at 641-628-8087 ext 105 or e-mail pzylstra@christianopportunity.org.  All proceeds will benefit Christian Opportunity Center.  These would make wonderful early Christmas gifts!





December 2 Gather[ed] Fellowship Event

Are you back from college and feeling a bit lost because your college friends are scattered throughout many towns and states? Do you want people your age to talk about life with? We want to be a community that gathers its 20s-30s (singles and couples) together so that we can meet new people, share our faith, and walk through tough things together. Gather[ed], is a community-wide group that will meet one Sunday night a month for some acoustic worship, conversation, and food. December 3 Pella Junior Hoops begins- register now!

Register for Pella Junior Hoops! For girls and boys, grades 3 and 4. Practices Mondays and Thursdays (3:45-4:45 girls, 4:45-5:45 boys) December 3 to January 26. Games are on Saturdays in January. Cost is $99. To register, visit pellajuniorhoops.com .





December 4 Pella Area Quilters Guild Meeting

The Pella Area Quilters Guild will have a Christmas potluck at the Tuesday, December 4, 2012 meeting.  The meeting is held in Room 101 of Third Reformed Church at 6 pm (note time change). In addition to the salads (O-Z) and desserts (A-N) we will have a make and take Christmas ornament project. Please bring 3 holiday fabrics cut into 3" squares and lots of straight regular sewing pins. The fabric should be 8 squares of color one and 16 squares of colors two and three.  You will also need one 12" x 2" striped fabric. The meeting will include a show and tell of members projects completed over the past month.





December 4 Light Up A Life Ceremony: Pella Hospice

Help light a Hospice tree that serves as a reminder of those loved ones. Program and tree lighting 6:30 pm at Trinity Reformed Church. Donate funds for a light. More information at 641-628-6625.





December 5 Alzheimer's Education Session

The session consists of three main topics: Techniques to Manage Behaviors; Activities to Encourage Engagement; and Caring for Yourself While Caring for a Loved One. Held at the Comfort House meeting room at 505 Union Street from 7-8 pm.





December 6-7 Pella Garden Club Presents 50th Annual Christmas Tour of Homes

"The Spirit of Christmas, Our Golden Reflections" is the theme for the 50th annual tour! Come see four beautiful homes decorated for Christmas and a delightful Christmas Tea and Boutique at Scholte Church (501 Franklin, Pella Historical Village). This exciting event will take place Thursday December 6, 10 am to 8 pm (tea hours are 9 am to 8 pm) and Friday, December 7, 10 am to 8 pm (tea hours are 9 am to 7 pm). Ticket prices are $12 through December 1, 2012, and then $15 December 3 through December 7. Tickets are available at the Historical Village office and several other area retailers. December 6 Christmas Cookie Walk

Come and join a delightful walk down the cookie aisle and choose your own assortment of cookies. Three dozen cookies for $8! Will be held at Calvary Christian Reformed Church at 408 Maple Street 4-6 pm. Pre-boxed cookies will also be available at Calvary or will also be sold at the Pella Pro-Life office located across from the Tulip Toren, 713 Franklin Street from 3-5 pm.

December 7 Festive Whimsy and Fine Art
"Festive Whimsy and Fine Art" is a holiday event for all tastes! From 10 am to 8 pm at the Pella Memorial Building. Artwork will be for sale from local artists, as well as art demonstrations, a gingerbread house competition, and reception from 5-8 pm. Enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of the season while shopping for the perfect gift of art. Sponsored by Red Rock Arts Alliance and art 101. December 7 Central College presents Christmas Candlelight Concert

A Christmas concert featuring A Cappella Choir, Chamber Singers, College Community Orchestra and Handbells. 8 pm at Douwstra Auditorium. Tickets: $10; $8 Senior Citizens; Students FREE w/Central ID. 




December 8 Families First presents Family Gingerbread House Making

Parents, Mentors, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles: Celebrate the season by creating a gingerbread house with your child! All supplies provided, no mess to clean up, come in your PJ's! Children ages preschool through fifth welcome, must be accompanied by an adult. 9 am to noon at Trinity Reformed Church. Cost is $6 per house, proceeds benefit Families First. Registrations required. December 8 Journey Bound Concert

November 12- December 14 Central College's Mills Gallery Exhibit

Husband and wife duo Dukno Yoon and Heather Bayless will exhibit their works in the Mills Gallery from November 12 - December 14. The couple works with metal structures. Their work can be seen during gallery hours, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. The exhibit is free and open to the public.



November 16- December 1 Festival of Trees: Its a Wonderful Life

Warm up amid the twinkling displays, available for purchase, that transform the Pella Opera House into a merry holiday wonderland! An annual fundraiser for children's theatre programming. Ticket price is a free-will donation. Schedule: November 16- December 1 from 10 am to 6 pm. November 16, Opening Night: Open until 8 pm. November 19, Family Night: Open until 8 pm. December 1: Open until 2 pm. Closed Sundays and Thanksgiving Day.
