Shirley Burg

Shirley Burg, 72, died Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House.

A memorial mass was be held 9:30 a.m. Friday, August 15 at Our Lady of the Americas-St. Peter’s Catholic Church of which she was a member. Private burial was at the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon.

Shirley Lou Klinzman Bender Burg was born in Oskaloosa on February 11, 1936 to Elmer and Ava (Peterson) Klinzman and grew up in New Sharon. She lived in Pella from 1961 until 1985 where she worked for Central College first in the Bookstore and later in the Controller’s office. In 1985 she married Norman R. Burg and moved to Des Moines. Shirley enjoyed cooking, card games and keeping in touch with friends. She loved spending time with her family and all of their family activities.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Norman of Des Moines; children, Janelle Pittman and Jay (Roberta) Bender of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; step children, Michael (Peggy) Burg, Marlena (Bill) Bandurski, Debbie (Larry) Thompson and Dennis (Cheryl) Burg; eight step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Mercy Home of Boys and Girls in Chicago or Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House. On line condolences may be left at www.ilesfuneralhomes.com
