Helen Blommers
Helen B. (VanBrogen) Blommers, 80, died on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing in Newton.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
Burial was held at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home.
Helen was the daughter of Ralph and Gertrude (Miedema) VanBrogen. She grew up in Pella, Iowa and was a graduate of Pella High School. Helen was united in marriage with Marvin Blommers on August 13, 1947 in Lynn Creek, Missouri. She moved to Newton in 1952. Helen worked 21 years for the Newton Community School District. She had worked in the Hot Lunch Program and then she worked as a custodian, retiring in 1988. Helen enjoyed being with her family, traveling, camping, knitting, and playing BINGO.
Survivors include her son, Duane (Lisa) Blommers of Newton; her two daughters, Sharon (Mike) Farrell of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Sandy (Bill) Boyd of Newton; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Blommers of Monroe, Iowa; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Joyce (Paul) Thompson of Pella.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Marvin in 1999; twin daughters in infancy, son, Mark in 2006; and her brother, Donald VanBrogen.
