Spencer Grond
Spencer D. Grond, age 74, of rural Bryan, Ohio, died at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, September 15, 2008, at Park View Nursing center in Edgerton, Ohio after a long struggle with dementia. Mr. Grond was a 1951 graduate of Pella High School in Pella, Iowa and then graduated from Central College also in Pella, Iowa. He earned a Masters Degree in Industrial Psychology from Bowling Green State University in 1956. Over the next years, Mr. Grond was employed by the Aro corporation in Bryan, Ohio, the Ford Motor Company, in Sandusky, the Fifty Plus Five Corporation, of West Unity, Ohio and the Ohio Gas Company. He then received his teaching credentials and taught math, science and industrial arts in the Tinora (Northeastern Local School District) in Defiance County for twenty-eight years and then went on to teach math at Northwest State Community College for twelve years. After retirement he worked at the True Value Hardware in Bryan for ten years. Mr. Grond was a member of the Ney United Methodist Church where held several offices throughout the years.
Spencer D. Grond was born November 11, 1933 in Holland, Michigan, the son of Harry and Elizabeth Jeanette (DeVries) Grond. He married Norma Jensen-Vincent on October 12, 1957, and she survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Grond is survived by a daughter, Karen (Ward) Kimberly, of Bryan, Ohio, a son, David (Sharon) Grond, of Bryan, Ohio, six grandchildren, Kevin and Kyle Schlachter, of, Bryan, Ohio, Casey Marie Schlachter, of Boston, Massachusetts, Ashley and Brittany Grond, of Defiance, Ohio, Tiffany (Nael) Jallad, of Defiance and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Ernest Paul Grond.
Services celebrating the life of Spencer D. Grond were held on Saturday, September 20, 2008, in the Ney United Methodist Church with Reverand Ron Adkins officiating. Interment was private in Shiffler Cemetery.
Memorials in the name of Spencer D. Grond may be given to the Ney United Methodist Church.
