Helen Menning

Helen Margaret Graver Menning was born on June 14, 1918 to Lloyd and Grace Johnston Graver in Lisbon, Iowa. She passed away at the Pella Hospice Comfort House on Thursday, October 23, 1918 at the age of ninety.

Helen attended Cornell College and the University of Iowa earning her B.S. degree in business. She spent many of her working years as a librarian at a junior high school.

On September 24, 1942 Helen was united in marriage with Donald J. Menning in Waupun, Wisconsin. To this union three children were born: Michael, Richard, and Mary.

Helen had been living in Pella since 2001, most recently at Vriendschap Village. Prior to moving to Pella she lived most of her life in the Cedar Rapids area.

She was a member of the Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids where she was active in the Kitchen Dialogue. She enjoyed reading, flower gardening, and animals.

Those left to cherish her memory are: her sons Michael and his special friend, Rhodora Pizarro, of Los Altos, California and Richard Menning of Denver, Iowa and his children Missy, Katie, Renee, Lisa, and Jill; her daughter Mary and husband David Barnes of Pella and their children Kelsey and Rachel. Helen’s husband, Don, preceded her in death in 2001.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Pella or Building Connections-Second Reformed Church. The Pella Garden Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
