Joyce Brown

Joyce Vernice Brown was born in Marion County, Iowa near Pella on October 13, 1928 the daughter of William and Johanna (Van Englehoven) Den Adel. She grew up near Pella where she attended European #1 (Bell School) nearby. While working in Pella she met Robert Earl Brown and was united in marriage on June 7, 1949 in Sheldon, Iowa. After their marriage they lived in Pella, Iowa, Ottumwa, Iowa, Maryville, Missouri and Bethany, Missouri, Corning, Iowa, and Villisca, Iowa as Bob was associated with HyVee Food Stores. She was a priority homemaker as well as a bookkeeper for Villisca HyVee, and a receptionist in the office of Dr. James Wyatt in Red Oak, Iowa. She served on the Villisca Pre-School Board, on the Interchurch Council, was a Church Deacon and a Sunday School Teacher, a longtime and honored member of the Presbyterian Womens Association, a confirmation mentor, and also sang in the choir and played in the Bell Choir. Additionally, she was a longtime volunteer hairdresser at the Good Samaritan Center. As a breast cancer survivor, she was an honorary co-chair for Montgomery County Relay for Life in 2008, as well as a longtime participant in various breast groups and projects. In addition to these activities, her favorite past times were spent with her family and friends as well as traveling, being involved in music, cooking, and doing many crafts including crocheting. Joyce died October 23, 2008 at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

In death she rejoined her father, mother, and brother-in-law, Peter Fazio.

Surviving are her husband Bob of Villisca; four children: Charm Faith Smith and husband John of Treynor, Iowa, Starr Tiara Scott and husband Doyle of Winterset, Iowa, Chele Diahn Garder and husband Scott of Blair, Nebraska, and Shawn Robin Brown and wife Angela of Bloomington, Minnesota; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Den Adel and wife Cornelia of Pella, Iowa, sisters, Ruth Fazio of Carmel, Indiana, and Fern Uitermarkt and husband Ken of Pella, Iowa; nieces and nephews

Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct 26, 2008 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Clarinda, Iowa, with Rev. Robert Keefer officiating. Interment was at Villisca Cemetery, Villisca, Iowa. Wolfe Funeral Home of Villisca served the family.
