Cora De Ronde

Pella —

Cornelia Pieternella Van Gorp was the fifth of seven children that were born to Dirk W. and Cornelia Pieternella (Rus) Van Gorp. She was born on September 1, 1910, at Luctor, Kansas. 
The family moved later near Leighton, Iowa and then to a farm west of Pella, Iowa. Cora graduated from the Pella Christian Grade School in Pella. As a young adult she worked at Vander Ploeg Bakery. 
On New Years Day, January 1, 1934, she was united in marriage with Cornie Hoksbergen, a son of Andrew and Anna (Van Gorp) Hoksbergen, at the home of her parents. Cornie and Cora began a life of farming and settled on the Harvey farm in 1942. 
Cora was a very dedicated farm wife and devoted mother to their two children: Ralph Eugene and Connie Pearl. Cora always knew the value of education. She attended the Central College Academy and later earned her high school diploma through a correspondence course. Cora was always so proud that her children graduated from college and eventually retired from their chosen careers. Ralph was an actuary for the state of Iowa and Connie was an elementary school teacher in Knoxville, Iowa. 
As a young girl, Cora had made public profession of her faith. Cora and Cornie were members of the Trinity Reformed Church when he passed away unexpectedly on November 9, 1974. Cora was active in the women’s guild and in circle. She taught Sunday School for many years, always stressing the memorization of scripture. She was very strong in her faith, knew the importance of learning God’s word, and appreciated the Heidelberg Cathecism. 
As a widow Cora married Jake De Ronde in 1983 and he passed away in 1989. Cora then began experiencing failing health and since 1996 had been a nursing home resident. 
She went to be with her Savior on Advent Sunday, December 1, 2013, while being deligently cared for at the Griffin Nursing Center in Knoxville, Iowa at the advanced age of 103 years. 
She was dearly loved and will always be remembered by her family: her son, Ralph E. Hoksbergen and his wife, Lois, of Ankeny, Iowa and their three childen: Jana Kray, Laura and Brad Hickman, Randall and Kallie Hoksbergen; her daughter, Connie and her husband, Barry Kane, of Pella and their four children: Curtis E. and Darcy Kane, Charon and Harlan Den Adel, Bryce and Melisa Kane, and Beth and Greg Williams. Cora leaves several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Wilma Vander Baan of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and two sisters-in-law: Elizabeth (Hoksbergen) Aalbers of Knoxville and Martha Faye (Hoksbergen) Bogaards of Pella. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Cornie Hoksbergen and Jake De Ronde; her parents, Dirk W. and Cornelia Van Gorp, her siblings, Janet Van Gorp, Allie Van Gorp, Minnie Dahm, Peter R. Van Gorp and Donald Van Gorp.
A service was held on Saturday, December 7, 2013.  Arrangements were handled by Van Dyk – Duven Funeral Home.
