Eileen Joyce Hessing, the second daughter of Gerrit and Wilma (Van Haaften) Hasselman, was born on February 20, 1938, at the family farm near Oskaloosa, Iowa in Mahaska County.  She passed away Monday, December 23, 2013, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of seventy-five.
Eileen graduated from Oskaloosa High School and later graduated from St. Luke’s Methodist School of Practical Nursing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
On April 10, 1958, she was united in marriage with Elmer Lee Hessing at the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton.  To this union three children were born: Dwight Dean, Brenda Renee, and Cheryl Joy.
Eileen worked as a L.P.N. at Mercy Hospital in Oskaloosa, Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Pella Community Hospital, Marion County Home Health Care, and Hill Top North Nursing facility in Pella.  She and Elmer were members of the Trinity Reformed Church in Pella where she was an active member in the Love Circle Bible Study group.  She was also a member of the Pella Garden Club.
Those left to cherish her memory are: her husband, Elmer; her three children: Dwight of Pella, Brenda Colberg of Burlington, Kentucky, and Cheryl Hessing of Burlington, Kentucky; two grandchildren: Devan and Matthew Colberg; and one sister, Eleanor (Edward) Van Gent of Burnett, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Wayne (Norma) Hasselman.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 27, 2013, at the Trinity Reformed Church in Pella.  Burial took place at the Oakwood Cemetery.  The Pella Garden Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
