Beulah Maxine Grandia Roorda, the second of four children, was born on March 7, 1921, to William F. and Eva Dena Vander Linden Grandia, southeast of Pella, Iowa. Beulah attended Hard Scrabble Country School later called Pleasant View. After she graduated from Pella High School in 1939 she taught at the Plain View Country Grade School for four years.
On October 7, 1942, Beulah was united in marriage with Vernon Willard Roorda. To this union three children were born: Stanley Eugene, Keith Wesley, and Gayle Diane.
Beulah was a devoted wife and mother. When their children were older, she enjoyed working with Esther Bensink at the Sale Barn Café. Their pies were delicious! She also was employed at Wormhoudt & Kempkes Clothing Store and later at Jaarsma Bakery for 17 years. Beulah took up knitting later in her years and made numerous beautiful afghans for her family and friends. Beulah and Vernon enjoyed many years working together as ground keepers at Graceland Cemetery.
A very important priority in Beulah’s life was not only for her family but her love for her Savior. At an early age, she made profession of her faith and was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church. Beulah was committed to many years of serving the Lord by teaching Sunday School, Christian Education Council, active in Guild and Ladies Circle.
She enjoyed volunteering at the Pella Community Hospital and served on the Hospital Auxiliary Board for many years. She was instrumental in the opening of the first snack bar.
During their years of marriage, they were close to many dear friends and family. They enjoyed traveling to many places with family and friends including Holland and Alaska. Playing cards, going out to eat on Saturday night, and just visiting and staying in touch was important to Beulah even up to her last weeks.
Vernon and Beulah had a wonderful life together for 60 years. Family was very important to them. Beulah was very grateful and felt blessed for how the Lord provided her needs throughout the 12 years without her husband after his death in 2002. Beulah went into Glory, at the age of 93 years, on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Jefferson Place in Pella.
She was blessed by many friends where she resided for almost 3 years. She will be greatly missed by many friends and especially by her family. Her family was very precious to her.
