Carroll Boot

Pella — J. Carroll Boot was born on September 7, 1934, to Clarence W. and Anna Steenhoek Boot at his family farm in Jasper County.  He received his early education at a country school near his home.  He graduated from Pella High School with the class of 1952 and later attended Iowa State University.

On November 29, 1956, Carroll was united in marriage with JoAnn Veenstra at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella.  They were blessed with four children: Eileen, Candace, Craig, and Glenda.

Carroll and JoAnn farmed until 1983, and then in 1985 he began working for Ring O’Matic in Pella until retiring in 2011.  He was a faithful member of the Second Christian Reformed Church.  He was also a member of the Red Rock Threshers, Rural Electric Cooperation (REC) Board, and served as a deacon and elder.  Carroll loved and had highest respect for all of God’s creation.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, and tractor riding.  Carroll was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who delighted in sitting back and watching his family.  He and JoAnn had many dear friends who they enjoyed being with at various events or just visiting.  Carroll and JoAnn enjoyed southern gospel music. On most Saturday evenings in the summer they traveled to the Rathbun Dam area to listen to some of their favorite singers.

Carroll passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of seventy-nine.  Those left to cherish his memory are his “precious” wife JoAnn; his four children: Eileen and Matt Young of Kingsley, Iowa, Candace and Scott De Penning of Pella, Craig and Kris Boot of Pella, Glenda and Brian Van Kooten of Pella; fourteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren .  He is also survived by his brother, Wilbur J. (Betty Lou) Boot of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and his brother-in-law, Ray Veenstra of Reasnor, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, parents-in-law, John and Ella Veenstra, and his in-laws, Dorothy Boot, Reggie Boot, Greda and Art Uitermarkt, Wilbur and Sarah Mae Veenstra, and Virginia Veenstra.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella.  Burial took place at the Oakwood Cemetery.  Memorials may be given to PET Project-Leighton, Iowa or Cary Mississippi Mission Project. The Garden Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
