Pella —

Earl L. DeBoef, 84, of rural New Sharon, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at the Mahaska Heath Partnership ICU.  He was born June 2, 1929, at the old Abbott Hospital in Oskaloosa, the son of Lester and Gertrude Hooyer DeBoef.  He attended school at Lacey.  He made his profession of faith at the age of eleven.  Following school he went to work helping his dad on the family farm.  On January 21, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marie VanKooten at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa.  To this union two children were born, Robert and Bonnie.  Following their marriage they began farming together in Mahaska County.  Earl and Marie maintained a dairy herd, livestock and grain operation in rural Mahaska County.  He retired from farming full time in 2007.  He still enjoyed working around the farm, rebuilding farm equipment and going to farm equipment sales, even after his retirement.  Earl had a lifelong love for the farm and farming.  His love of the land and farming were further reflected in the hours he volunteered at Russell Wildlife.  In November of 2012 he became a resident at Oskaloosa Care Center.  He was a member of the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa.
Earl is survived by his wife of over 64 years Marie DeBoef of rural New Sharon; their son and his family, Robert (& Marlis) DeBoef of New Sharon and their children, Melissa (& Kent) Schmidt of Cedar Falls, and their children, Jacob and Joshua Schmidt, Allison DeBoef of Oskaloosa, and Robbyn (& Douglas) DeBruin of Oskaloosa, and their children, Anna, Trenton, and Lindsay DeBruin, step grandchildren, Ben (& Danielle) Klein of Riverside, Florida, and their children Kailee and Kraven Klein and Sheila Klein of Oskaloosa, and her children Chase and Alexis; Earl and Marie’s daughter, Bonnie ( and the late Gregory) DeJong of New Sharon, and their children, Matthew (& Marinda) DeJong of Montezuma and their children, Michael, Maguire and Elizabeth DeJong, and Joel (& Caprice) DeJong of Montezuma and their children, Caymen and Cruz DeJong; Earl is also survived by his brothers and sisters in law, Cornie (& Mary Ann) VanKooten, Hank VanKooten, Hermina (& William) Stursma, Kenneth (& Marlene) VanKooten, Darlene (& Elmer) Kloosterman and Elvin (& Linda) VanKooten.
