James Stines

Pella — James Raymond Stines was born November 7, 1936 to Gilbert and Beatrice Edgeton Stines near Monroe, Iowa. He passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the Pella Regional Health Center at the age of seventy-three.

Jim grew up in the Monroe/Knoxville area and attended the Monroe High School. On April 12, 1957 Jim was united in marriage with Dorothy Holmes. Later he married Loybelle Goodsell. For many years he was employed at Pella Corporation until he developed health issues and had to discontinue working.

Jim enjoyed fishing and hunting. Most of all he loved being with his children and their families and also looked forward to his daily visits with his wife, Loy, who resides in Long Term Care at the Pella Regional Health Center. He liked country music, especially gospel. His favorite place was “the bluff overlooking the red bridge.”

Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Loybelle, of Pella; his four children: Laura and Steve Banasik of Lexington, Missouri, Pam and Bruce Etter of Chariton, Gilbert and Melinda Stines of Chariton, Henry Stines of Chariton; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Patty Boden of Newton; and his three nephews: Bobby, Mike, and Jimmy Boden of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jim’s advice to his children has always been, “do the best you know how to do.” He will be missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, August 10, 2010 at the Pella Garden Chapel Funeral Home.
