Robert Lee Jansen was born to Henry Brant and Cornelia (Nelly) Van Norden Jansen on August 29, 1937, at the hospital in Newton, Iowa. They were living west of Killduff, Iowa at the time and in 1943 moved south of Sully, Iowa where Robert attended the Chester Country Grade School. In 1957, he and Alenna Joann Nieuwsma were united in marriage at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa. To this union five children were born: Rodney Alan, Ricky Lee, Rhonda Diane, Roger Eugene and Rhinda Kay. Robert and his dad worked the land together for forty years and those years are fondly remembered by his family. He also raised livestock and worked as a part time truck driver for various local trucking companies. He enjoyed raising horses, hunting, collecting IH/Farmall memorabilia and belt buckles. He and Alenna faithfully attended their children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and other activities. Robert was especially grateful for the aid of his motorized scooter during his later years. Upon retirement, they continued living on the farm until moving to Pella in October, 2012. On Tuesday morning, March 12, 2013, he passed away at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of 75 years. Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Alenna; their five children and their spouses and 13 grandchildren. They and their families are: Rod and Leanne (Tanis) Jansen of Grinnell, Joel Jansen of Ames, Greg and Julia Jansen, Rick and Staci (Lanser) Jansen of Sully, Darci, Kara, Derrick and Kody Jansen, Rhonda and Steve Pleima of Lakeland, Florida, Renae Pleima of Lakeland, Florida, Roger and Caroll (Moore) Jansen of Oskaloosa, Ryan and Randall Jansen, Rhinda and Rusty Kramer of Pella, Tyler, Tanner and Megan Kramer.
Of his original family Robert leaves two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law: Esther (Nieuwsma) and Kenneth Van Gent, Gladys (Harris) Nieuwsma all of Pella; and several nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Paul and Minnie (Andringa) Nieuwsma; a brother-in-law, Harris Nieuwsma; and a grandson, Shaun Pleima. Robert was baptized at the Sully Christian Reformed Church and made profession of his faith at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella. For the past 50 years, he was a faithful member of the Sully Christian Reformed Church. in Sully, Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Sully Christian Reformed Church in Sully, Iowa. Arrangements were handled by Van Dyk – Duven Funeral Home.
