Gen Van Ekeren

Pella — Genevieve Jane Reardon was born in Oil City, Pennsylvania on August 22, 1932. Her parents, Doyle Raymond and Geraldine Lenora (Noss) Reardon, later moved to Newton Falls, Ohio where she graduated from high school. Gen’s first employment was with the personnel department at the arsenal in Newton Falls. Then she and Ramon Earl Van Ekeren met at a friends wedding. On January 16, 1954, they were united in marriage and to this union three children were born:  Rebecca Fay, James Alan and Mary Kay. Following their marriage she and “Bud,” as he was known, farmed for a few years near Monroe, Iowa, which was his birth place. He later went to work for Pella Construction Company in Pella, Iowa. Gen became the human resource director for Van Gorp Corporation where her husband was later employed. Gen held this position for over 30 years and following her retirement moved to St. Louis, Missouri to be near her daughter, Beci. She passed away on Labor Day, September 3, 2012, at the Laclede Groves Care Center in St. Louis at the age of 80 years. She is survived by her three children: Rebecca F. Van Ekeren of St. Louis; James A. Van Ekeren and his wife, Donna, of Overland Park, Kansas and his two children: Bailey L. Van Ekeren of Deland, Florida and Clayton A. Van Ekeren, a student at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa; Mary K. and her husband, Shawn R. Corley of Coupeville, Washington. Gen leaves her sister, Patricia and her husband, Phillip Pegg, of San Benito, Texas; her sister-in-law, Arlene (Raymond) Reardon of Mentor, Ohio; and the following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: James H. and Elberta Van Ekeren of Montgomery, Illinois, Philip T. and Berta Van Ekeren of Monroe, Iowa. Gen was preceded in death by her husband, Ramon E. Van Ekeren, on January 1, 1990 at the age of 62 years; her parents, Doyle and Geraldine Reardon; her brother, Raymond Reardon; her sister, Colleen and her husband, William Chambers; her parents-in-law, Dirk and Edith (Hoagland) Van Ekeren; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Norma (Van Ekeren) and Donald Celania. Gen loved to cook. She enjoyed watching cooking shows and sports, particularly the Kansas City Chiefs football team.   Prayer services were held on Thursday, September 9, 2012 at the Van Dyk – Duven Funeral Home.
