Robert Van Zante

Pella — Robert John Van Zante Jr. was born on May 10, 1964, to Robert and Tamiko Asano Van Zante in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  He passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, at the home of his daughter at the age of forty-eight.

The family moved from Colorado to Pella in 1979. Bob attended the Pella Community High School.

On November 25, 1985, Bob was united in marriage with Lori Gordin. The couple was blessed with two children: Logan and Bobbi. Together the family enjoyed camping, ice hockey, motocross, and numerous family vacations.  He also spent much time with his dog, Daisy.

Years later, Bob was united in marriage to Pamela Wheeler. To this union came Maggi Wheeler-Van Zante.

Bob spent his whole life in the construction business, and eventually started the Van Zante Construction, which is now operated by his son, Logan.  He was a member of the Third Reformed Church in Pella

Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, mechanics, and helping others, especially on mission trips to Mexico.  Bob loved spending time with his family, and went on many trips to Des Moines with Maggi. Later in life, he enjoyed helping out at Slideways, socializing at Bobbi’s, playing horse shoes, and sitting around the campfire. Bob took delight in planning and helping with the weddings of his two older children. Bob also had many wonderful friends that he loved to spend time with.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his mother, Tamiko Van Zante of Pella; his children and their spouses: Logan and Madelyn Van Zante, Bobbi and Elijah Slagter, and Maggi Wheeler-Van Zante; his sister, Nan Van Zante; and one nephew, Chris Van Zante.

Robert was preceded in death by: his father, Robert Van Zante, and his sister, Peggy Filler.

Bob will be remembered for his honesty, his sense of humor, and his positive outlook on life. He always offered his home for people to stay and would go out of his way to help anyone in need. Bob was always someone that his family and friends could depend on.  No matter where he was in life, he was always a bold witness for Christ. Bob always had fun, helped others, and lived life to the fullest.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 29, 2013, at the Third Reformed Church in Pella.  The Garden Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
