Virgil Klein


The Chronicle

Pella — Virgil Paul Klein was born on February 29, 1928, on the family farm near Pella, Iowa, to Gradus A. and Anna Van Den Berg Klein. 

Virgil was baptized in the First Christian Reformed Church of Pella, July 1, 1928, by Rev. J. DeHaan.  He completed the eighth grade at the Otley School.  On February 27, 1947, Virgil was united in marriage with Leola Maxine Niemantsverdriet at the home of Wilbur and Bea Hugen.  They are blessed with two daughters: Lola and Jeanne. 

Virgil made confession of faith in the Third Reformed Church, April 13, 1948, and was active and instrumental in beginning the Heartland Reformed Church serving as a Deacon, Building and Grounds Commission, and Video Historian 1990-1995. He served 13 years as a District Soil Commissioner, and was a member of the Pella Golf and Country Club.  He was involved in farming for 47 years. 

He went to his heavenly home on Monday, April 1, 2013, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of eighty-five.  Virgil is survived by: his wife, Leola; his two daughters, Lola (Rick) Peck and Jeanne Hunter; grandchildren, Jeff (Brandy) Thomasson, Jody (Shane) Flemming, Jessica (Phillip) Lanzarotta, Jill (Ryan) Ingraham; great-grandchildren, Bailey, Jacob, and Brooklyn Thomasson, and Phinley Lanzarotta; a brother Arvin (Norma) Klein; sisters, Gladys (Jim) Karlin and Gerry (Gerald) Angove; brother-in-law, Wilbur Hugen; sister-in-law, Roberta Klein, Darlene Klein, and Viola Vande Noord. 

He is preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Alice Van Essen; brothers, Willard Klein and Wayne Klein; sister-in law Bea Hugen; and brothers-in-law Harold Van Essen, John De Ronde, and John Vande Noord.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Heartland Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa.  Burial took place at the Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.  The Garden Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
