Vera Swearngain

Pella —

Vera J. Swearngain, age 94, of Knoxville and formerly of Bussey passed away Saturday morning, August 24, 2013, at the Griffin Nursing Center in Knoxville, Iowa.
Vera was born on July 27, 1919 to Thomas and Mary Estella (Umbenhower) Lenig in Lucas County, Iowa.  She graduated from the Gosport School
On July 1, 1939 Vera and Gilbert (Bert) Swearngain were united in marriage and to this union three children were born.  Vera and Bert shared 50 years of marriage together before Bert’s passing.
Vera was a homemaker raising her family and later she worked for Big Smith Mfg. of Knoxville and Oskaloosa.  She retired in 1979 after 20 years of employment.
Vera is survived by her children: Connie (Keith) Bailey of Bussey and Don (Pat) Swearngain of Broomfield, Colorado; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bert Swearngain; her daughter Carole Vink; Carole’s husband Marion; her parents; four sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services for Vera will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville with Pastor Bill Lane officiating.  Burial will follow services at Liberty Cemetery of rural Bussey.
Vera’s family will be greeting friends one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the Winfield Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions can be made to Christian Radio Station KCWN in Pella or Hospice of Central Iowa.  Condolences may be sent to www.winfieldfh.com.  The Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville is assisting Vera’s family with services.
