Lorena Faye Meyer

Pella —

Lorena Faye Weyers was born on February 12, 1919, just south of Otley, Iowa. She was the youngest of three children that were born to Dirk L. and Maggie (Van Hemert) Weyers. Dirk and Maggie suffered much sorrow in the loss of their first two daughters: Diverta Leona born September 4, 1912 and died January 15, 1913; and Diverta Alice born September 14, 1914 and died December 27, 1914.
Faye, as she was known, received her formal education at the Liberty Corner Country Grade School attending through the eighth grade.   She then worked at the Allen Dime Store in Pella as a young woman.
Faye was introduced to Donald F. Meyer by her best friend, Minnie Mae Vanden Berg, and on August 7, 1940, they were united in marriage in Pella, Iowa. Donald and Faye raised two wonderful children: Duane Keith who was born on February 2, 1946, and Sheryl Ann who was born on December 1, 1947, while they were living in Otley, Iowa.
Donald later bought out his partner, Don Kamerick, and purchased the building and the business became known as Meyer’s Radio & T V which was located at 720 Main Street in Pella, Iowa.  Lorena helped Donald operate their family business into the 1950’s when her family required her attention.
After 62 years in the radio and television business, Donald finally retired in April of 2006.  Donald and Faye continued to live the remainder of their married life at 1218 Marion Avenue in Pella. They had enjoyed trips to Holland, Switzerland, Germany and favorite vacations where spent in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Faye enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, crocheting and was very avid in attending sales looking for antiques to collect. She played the piano at home and enjoyed sharing time with her family and friends.
On Wednesday morning, July 10, 2013, she passed away at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the advanced age of 94 years, 4 months and 28 days.  Those who will cherish her long life are her two children and their spouses, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
