Wayne Vander Werff

Wayne Bert Vander Werff was the youngest of four children that were born to Bert and Anna (Brummel) Vander Werff. 
He was born on  December 16, 1936, near Otley, Iowa. Wayne and his family moved to a farm east of Pella, Iowa when he was 3 years of age where he attended the Warren Country Grade School.  He graduated from Pella High School with the Class of 1955 and during high school  played the trumpet in the high school band.   
For over 20 years Wayne, “the chicken-man” worked for Cornie Van Gorp at Van Gorp Hatchery in Pella. 
On April 22, 1988, he and Joyce L. Geery were united in marriage at the Harvey Methodist Church in Harvey, Iowa and he acquired 3 children: Selena, Daniel and Laura Lennie. 
In the later years they owned and continued to operate the hatchery for two years after it had  burned in 1993. Wayne then worked at CT tractor in Pella for two years and for the City of Pella, Iowa with the Parks Department for six years. Wayne thoroughly enjoyed this work, as he was an outdoors person, until suffering a cerebral vascular accident in 2004.  
He eventually became a resident at the Griffin Nursing & Rehab Center in Knoxville, Iowa and passed away on Wednesday evening, August 21, 2013, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella, Iowa at the age of 76 years. Wayne adjusted to his disability but  would have rather been hunting, fishing or camping.
Those who will remember his good nature and personality are his wife, Joyce L. Vander Werff, of 901 W. Main Street in Knoxville; their three children and their families: Selena and Captain Henry P. Roux, Jr. of Great Lakes, Illinois and their two children, Matthew Roux and Sara Roux and her significant other, Wes Dummond; Daniel Lennie of Knoxville and his step-son and his wife, Scott and Rachel Fee and their daughter, Harley; Laura and Jeff Morrow of Knoxville and their two children, Dylan Morow and Tiffany Morrow; his two sisters and his brother: Barbara Vander Werff of Pella, Jeanette and Bill Brown of Johnston, Iowa, Elvin Vander Werff of Pella; and his 4 nephews: Mark, Steven, Brian an Kevin Brown. Wayne also leaves the following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Edwin and Wanda Geery, Jr. of Eufala, Oklahoma, Karen Wardenburg of Knoxville, Henry and Pat Geery of Indianola, Iowa, Darroll and Cindy Geery, Alicia Geery-Dale , Susanna Geery, Alan Geery and Becky Lane, Clint and Ronda Geery all of Knoxville. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Anna Vander Werff; his parents-in-law, Edwin and Geraldine (Nichols) Geery; a daughter-in-law, LuAnn (Daniel Lennie) Fee; and a brother-in-law, Roger Wardenburg. 
Wayne was a member of the Heartland Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa.  He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Pheasants Forever, White Tails Unlimited and for many years Ducks Unlimited. 
Funeral services were held on Monday, August 26, 2013 at the Heartland Reformed Church in Pella.  Arrangements were handled by Van Dyk – Duven Funeral Home.
