Beulah De Zwarte

Pella — Beulah Pearl De Zwarte, daughter of Conrad and Anna (Andringa) De Vries, was born on August 15, 1934 in Mahaska County near Peoria, Iowa.  She attended rural country schools, Pella Christian Grade School, and Pella Christian High School.

She was united in marriage with Loren De Zwarte on July 30, 1952. Beulah and Loren were blessed with a large family of eleven children:  Lila, Darrell, Larry, Sheila, Lisa, Tresa, LeAnn, Lonnie, Angela, Anthony, and Pamela.

Through the years she was a waitress at area restaurants where she enjoyed meeting new people. Her last employment was being a caregiver for various clients at the Christian Opportunity Center in Pella.  She loved to crochet and made countless blankets, scarves and baby clothes. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her visits to Michigan where five of her daughters live.

While visiting family in Grand Rapids, she suffered a massive stroke on Saturday December 29, 2012. Beulah went to be with the Lord on January 1, 2013 at the Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Surviving are her husband Loren of sixty years;  nine children and their spouses:  Lila (Larry) Gullion of Knoxville, Iowa; Darrell (Rhonda) De Zwarte of Pella, Iowa; Larry (Janice) De Zwarte of Knoxville, Iowa; Sheila (Jim) Van Donselaar of Grand Rapids, Michigan;  Lisa (Kevin) Rowe of Hudsonville, Michigan;  Tresa (Tim) Koole of Grand Rapids, Michigan;  Lonnie (Danece) De Zwarte of Pella, Iowa;  Angela (Brian) Tenbrock of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Pamela (Mike) Cleary of Hudsonville, Michigan;  fifty-three grandchildren;  and twenty-one great-grandchildren.   Also sisters-in-law Marilyn De Vries of Pella, Iowa, Erma Steenhoek of Pella, Iowa; and brother-in-law Raymond and spouse Mildred De Zwarte of Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Beulah is preceded in death by:  her parents Conrad and Anna De Vries; her brother Vernon De Vries;  a daughter LeAnn; infant son, Anthony;  and a great –granddaughter, Sarah Lunsford.

At the time of her death, Beulah was a faithful member of the Covenant Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the Covenant Reformed Church in Pella.  Burial took place at the Oakwood Cemetery.  The Pella Garden Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
