Les Bennett

Pella — Leslie Robert Bennett was born on May 17, 1933 in Pella, Iowa, the son of Harry Leslie and Cornelia Lucille (Klein) Bennett.  He lived in the Harvey area most of his life, and graduated from Tracy High School in 1950.  On September 2, 1950 he was united in marriage to Ramona Mae Pettyjohn.  Les managed the Hunter Oil Company in Omaha, NE for twelve years.  When he moved back to Iowa, he began working for the Marion County Road Department, which he retired from in 1995.

Les was a member of the Harvey United Methodist Church.  In his spare time he enjoyed bowling and the outdoors, where he looked forward to going hunting and fishing.  He also got a lot of pleasure from music and liked playing his guitar and singing.  Most of all, Les loved spending time with his family.

Les passed away on Sunday evening, January 6, 2013 at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of 79 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Joe Ball.  Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 62 years, Ramona; children, Pamela Bennett of Harvey, Robert Bennett of Lovilia, Dianna Guzman of Pella and Darrell (Debbie) Bennett of Knoxville; brothers, Donald (Shirley) Bennett of Melcher and Roger (Marly) Bennett of Omaha; grandchildren, Scott Starmer, Brenda Moss, Shawn Agan, Andy Bennett, Cory Vanderveer, Abby Hellman, Bobbie Doty, Shelley Wenzel, James Bennett, Aaron Vanderheiden and Benjamin Vanderheiden; 21 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

  A funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville with Pastor Diana Pollard of the Harvey United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial followed in Marysville Cemetery in Marysville.  For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Pella Comfort House.
