On Saturday, January 21, and on Sunday, January 22, from 2-3 p.m., Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) would like to invite you and your family for a snowshoe hike. The program is free and open to the public. Snowshoes in adult and children sizes are provided at no cost by the Refuge for use during the hike. Please pre-register for this program to ensure that there are enough materials and personnel to provide the best winter experience for you.
During this program, a ranger will provide instructions about how to use snowshoes. A naturalist will guide you on a snowshoeing adventure through the winter prairie landscape and help you discover tracks and other animal signs along the way. The theme for Saturday’s hike will be winter birds and the theme for Sunday’s hike will be winter survival. If there happens to be no snow on the ground on either day, a ranger will still lead a hike, but will adapt the program to more appropriately fit the weather conditions.
You can register for the snowshoe hike program by contacting Michelle Garcia at email@example.com or 515-994-3400.
