Spring arrives in Marion County in style

Lake Red Rock — The first day of spring, March 20, truly had the appropriate weather. Sunshine and a nice temperature sent many people into the outdoor of splendor of Lake Red Rock.

"We've had a great day," Kathy Wilson said. She and her granddaughters, three of whom were visiting from Worthington, Minn., had taken a hike. They brought a lunch with them and were found enjoying a picnic below the Red Rock Dam.

Fishing brought many people out to the lake. Ken Eckert, who lives near Prairie City, came seeking walleye with his grandson, Ryan. Ken said that they usually get several walleye on their trips to Red Rock, but no such luck today. That didn't matter, though, they were grateful for the return of spring and the beautiful day.

One fisherman did manage to catch a couple of fish. He was happy to show them to the Wilson grandchildren, who were careful not to get too close to the fish.

Dwight and Penny LeGros of Knoxville had just pulled in with their family as we were getting ready to leave. Penny said she and her family almost "live" at Red Rock during the spring and summer.

"We're out here to breathe in all of the fresh air we can," Penny said. "We're excited to stretch our legs and get some sunshine." The family had no plans for what they were going to do this afternoon, they just wanted to get out and enjoy themselves.

They were not alone in this desire.
