Snowshoe Hike at Neal Smith NWR

The Chronicle

Pella — Are you looking for a fun way to get some exercise this winter? We have the perfect idea for you! On Saturday, January 19 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge would like to invite you to join us for a snowshoe hike.  This snowshoe program is free and open to the public of all ages and experience levels. Snowshoes in adult and children’s sizes are provided by the Refuge at no cost, or you can bring your own.  Please pre-register for this program to ensure that there are enough snowshoes and personnel to provide the best winter experience for you.

During this program, a ranger will provide instructions about how to use snowshoes. Then, a naturalist will guide you on a snowshoeing adventure through the winter prairie landscape. If there happens to be no snow on January 19, a ranger will still lead a hike, but will adapt the program to more appropriately fit the weather conditions.

To register or if you have questions, please contact Megan_Wandag@fws.gov or 515-994-3400.

The next snowshoe hike program will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013.  The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is committed to providing access to this program for all participants.  Please direct all requests for sign language interpreting services, close captioning, or other accommodation needs to Megan Wandag at  megan_wandag@fws.gov or 515-944-3400, TTY 800-877-8339 with your request by close of business on January 25, 2013.
