Carpooling advised for Saturday Pella High events

The Pella Lady Dutch will host the Knoxville Panthers in a regional girls' basketball playoff Saturday night. Pella High will also host a show choir event on Saturday, which could create traffic issues.

Facing a cool windy evening and a team who has struggled throughout the year the Pella Christian Eagles were able to capture their fourth win in a row this last half of the season. West Marshall came into the game winless and left the same way after a 35-0 win by the Eagles.

Friday night's trip to Newton to take on another ranked team was supposed to be a statement game, Coach Jay McKinstrey told his football squad before game time. The Dutch made a very profound statement, crushing the Cardinals 69-14.

Rippentrop captures state championship

Ed Rippentrop, of Pella, recently captured the 2nd IGA State Net Championship on Monday at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Iowa City. The Pella resident posted a Net 64, five strokes below the 69.6 Course Rating from the white tees. Rippentrop finished strong, carding net birdies on holes 14, 15 and 18. Marion resident Tom Busch earned runner-up honors with a net 67. The momentum for Busch began on the fifth hole when he chipped-in for a natural birdie. He quickly followed with a net eagle on the 7th, followed by net birdies on the 8th, 9th and 10th. Jack Peacock of Cedar Rapids and Mike Worthington of Humboldt posted net 68’s to share third. Ken Nossaman of Pella and Pat Archibald of Melrose rounded out the top five with 69’s. The playing surface at Pleasant Valley Golf Course is in great shape and once the early morning fog lifted the players were left with ideal conditions.

PC runners do well in Knoxville

Pella Christian's Marina Shannon placed 26th among 85 runners during the girls' varsity event at the Knoxville Invitational on Tuesday. The top varsity finisher for the boys was Samuel Dahm, who finished 33rd of 83 runners in the boys' varsity event.

Eagles lose a close one to Sigourney

It was an exciting game for the Eagles last night in Sigourney, which unfortunately saw the team come up a bit short in a 29-27 loss to the Cobras. The first half was a defensive battle as each team struck paydirt one time only each with Sigourney holding a 7-6 lead. Miles Wichart scored the lone TD for PC on a one-yard yard run.

The Pella Christian Eagles' cross country teams took part in the Oskaloosa Invitational last night. The Eagles' top finisher was on the JV squad, Davi Simoes. Simoes finished first in the one-mile and two-mile events. As an international student, he is considered a transfer student for competition and, thus, is relegated to the JV squad.

The Pella Little Dutch found themselves embroiled in a very competitive Regional Qualifying meet at South Tama Thursday night. The weather was cold, windy and wet, but the competition was hot. Pella did well against the familiar foes of the Little Hawkeye Conference, but it was some loaded teams out of the rugged WAMAC Conference that divided up the points and forced the Little Dutch to settle for second in the team race.
