Eagles fly past the Dutch

Pella is still in search of victory number one as the Dutch dropped a 10-0 Little Hawkeye Conference Baseball decision to cross-town rival Pella Christian Monday evening at Central College.

As far as the Eagles are concerned, they won their third game in a row, after winning two games at their own tournament Saturday.

PC made the most of their opportunities in the first inning as a walk, a batter hit by pitch and two singles resulted in three Eagle runs.

Alex Arkema walked to open the game for PC.

After reaching third, Arkema stole home for the first run of the game.

A ground out by Alex Veenstra scored Jon Holwerda. Chase Dieleman, reached with a single and he scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Zach Ruiter.

Pella settled down defensively as pitcher Josh Van Ee silenced the PC bats in innings two and three.

In the fourth the Eagles plated four runs on five hits as Holwerda had two RBI, Dieleman and Sam DeNooy each had one RBI.

Pella managed four hits off PC starting pitcher Alex Arkema in the first four innings.

The Dutch actually had two hits in the fourth as Caleb Parks and Chase Estabrook each reached with singles.

Pella courtesy runner Nathan Buchheit however was caught stealing and the Dutch left two runners on base in the fourth.

The Eagles further helped out Arkema as they turned a pair of double plays in the game. One in the first inning and another in the fifth.

In the sixth the Eagles put the game away by scoring three runs on four hits.

Tom Bouwkamp, Holwerda and Alex Veenstra each had a single for the Eagles in the sixth while Arkema ripped a double.

The hit by Veenstra scored Holwerda with the 10th run of the night to end the contest.

PC scored 10 runs on 11 hits while the Dutch totaled no runs on seven hits.

Statistics

Arkema, Dieleman and Mark Mineart each had two hits in the game for the Eagles.

Holwerda had three RBI and Dieleman finished with two.

Pella finished with seven hits, two of them by Chase Estabrook, one of them being a double.

Van Ee took the pitching defeat for Pella while Arkema picked up the win.
