IWGA State Amateur set for Pella

The Iowa Women’s Amateur Championship conducted by the Iowa Women’s Golf Association will be held at Bos Landen Golf Course in Pella, Iowa July 21 - 23. This championship is a three day 54 hole stroke play event, with flights determined after the first two days of play and prizes awarded in all flights after the final day.
A few former champions in the field include Beth Deunow (St. Ansgar) who won at Sunnyside CC in 1995, Jenny Graeser (Waterloo), formerly Jenny Heinz who won at Dodge Park in Council Bluffs in 2003, and Kendra Hanson (Forest City), the defending Champion. Beth is also the current IWGA Senior champion. Some of the Junior notables in the field include Kristin Paulson, (Ottumwa), who is the current Junior Champ, Katie Suckow (Waukee), last year’s Junior Champion, and Rachel Hanigan (Dunlap) who won the Junior tournament in 2006. Other IWGA tournament winners include Judy McCarty, 2003, 04, & 05 Super Senior Champion, 2006 Forever 39 Match Play Champion and Carroll Dethrow, 2006 Sr. Am Champion.
There are three ISU golf team members also included in the field: Kristin Paulson, Katelyn Hogenson and Pennapa Pulsawath.
Five dollars of each entry in any of the IWGA tournament is used to help fund The Annual Ann Griffel IWGA Scholarship program. This year we awarded six $1,500 scholarships to six Iowa high school girls who are planning to enrolled in an Iowa accredited state or private college in Iowa in 2008.
