Steenhoek accepts offer from Northwestern

Lukas Steenhoek (Pella, Iowa) signed a letter of intent to continue his football careers at Northwestern College next fall for the Red Raiders.

Steenhoek is a 5’11”, 160-pound running back and safety who played three years for the Pella High School football team. Steenhoek rushed for 384 yards on 74 carries and scored six touchdowns in leading his team to the state quarterfinals and an 11-1 record. He totaled 29 tackles and one interception on defense while also posting 11 kickoff returns for 204 yards.

Steenhoek was a unanimous all-district selection at defensive back and plans to major in education at Northwestern. He is the son of Danny and Amy.

“Lukas has very good speed and quickness,” commented head coach Kyle Achterhoff. “He primarily played safety in high school but we think he has the skills to develop into a very good cornerback for us. We are pleased to have Lukas join the Red Raider football team.”

The Red Raiders were 9-3 overall, which included their first playoff berth since 2006. The Red Raiders tied Doane for second place in the GPAC with a record of 7-2.
