The Pella High Lady Dutch wore special headbands in their match with Ballard of Huxley last week.
The headbands read BVV #33. They were in honor of Blake Van Vark, who passed away seven months ago in a car accident.
“The headbands were worn in memory of Blake. It was a great night to get a win,” stated Pella Coach Katie Brand.
The Dutch beat the Ballard Bombers in a tough fought match 19-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-18.
“We had momentum at times in game one, but we couldn’t get it all together,” Brand said.
The Dutch put it all together the rest of the night as Shannon Ewing and Jessica Holeterhaus each finished with 12 kills and Anna Van Roekel added seven and Makenna Bogaard 10.
“We played more as a team tonight. We showed improvement in scrambling and making saves on the ball,” Brand added.
Ewing had 15 digs, Mallory Lynch 14 and Taelor Rempe, a team high 23.
At the net, Holterhaus led with five blocks.
Regan Nelson had 21 assists and Morgan Ernst finished with 16.
Nelson also led the way for the Dutch with three ace serves. Bogaard was 20-of-21 serving with one ace.
The win puts the Dutch at 7-11 overall.
