The Pella High Little Dutch topped the Pella Christian Eagles 70-53 Tuesday, Jan. 7 to complete a sweep of the two varsity basketball games between the inner-city rivals. Isaac Naaktgeboren poured in 26 points in leading the Dutch. Jordan Pingel sank 14 points and Bryce Bortscheller popped in 10 in the win.
It was the Eagles who burst out of the gate early with a 16-3 advantage. Pella rallied back to take a 34-27 advantage at the half. The Eagles were paced by Coltin Collins with 19 points.
The Eagles are now 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the league. Pella moves to 6-2 and 2-2 in the LHC with the win.
In the girls' varsity affair it was the Jessica Holterhaus show. She led all scorers in the game with 20 in leading the Pella Lady Dutch to a 54-49 win over the PC Eagles. Holterhaus also pulled in 14 rebounds. Thirteen of Holterhaus' points came in the fourth quarter.
Mackenzie Gustafson was on fire early for the Dutch as she finished with 14 points.
The Eagles countered with Lauren Jungling sinking 17 points, Hannah Beltman 12 and Tessa Howerzyl with 10.
PC is now 4-6 for the year and 1-3 in the LHC. Pella is 5-4 and 2-2 in the LHC.
