The Pella High Little Dutch varsity boys’ basketball team finished the season with a final mark of 19 wins and just 4 losses.
The Dutch had two streaks that included seven games each during the year. Pella was unbeaten in non-conference play.
Pella scored more than 70 points in 16 games and they exceeded the 80 point level five times this past year.
In comparing the Dutch to other teams in Class 3A, it was a year they stood out.
Pella was third in Class 3A in scoring, second in assists, first in offensive rebounds, second in total rebounds and seventh in scoring margin.
All five of Pella’s starters received some form of all-conference recognition.
Isaac Naaktgeboren and Jordan Pingle were each unanimous first-team All-LHC selections. Bryce Bortscheller made the second team while Nathan Clayberg and Seth Johnson were both honorable mention selections.
Clayberg was named to the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-State Team.
Naaktgeboren was named to the Iowa Newspaper Association (INA) second-team all-state squad in Class 3A.
As for other individual accolades, Seth Johnson finished among the top 10 in 3A in assists and Naaktgeboren was top 10 in 3A in rebounding.
Pella Head Coach Mark Core handed out several awards at the team banquet.
Perseverance Award - Jordan Pingel
Leadership Award - Nathan Clayberg
Best Practice Player Award - Ryan Wichhart
Most Improved - Bryce Bortscheller
Most Inspirational - Jordan Pingel
Positive Attitude Award - Seth Johnson.
Named as team captains for the 2014-15 Pella squad were Seth Johnson and Isaac Naaktgeboren.
Individual statistics showed Naaktgeboren averaged 17.6 points per game, Pingel 15.4, Bortscheller 11.6, Ryan Van Wyk 6.3 and Seth Johnson 6.1 points per contest.
Bortscheller led the team in 3-point goals with 51 followed by Naaktgeboren with 39.
Naaktgeboren led the squad with 206 rebounds for the year followed by Clayberg with 144 and Garret Jansen with 87.
Seth Johnson was the assist leader with 116 with Pingel and Bortscheller each tied for second with 81 each.
