Pella played a pair of games at the Waukee Soccer Tournament Saturday.
Only three teams were at the meet with Pella being the lone 2A school.
The Dutch faced the host school, Waukee in the opening match of the day.
A strong wind out of the south made for some difficult play.
Pella and Waukee matched intensity levels from the start of the game. Each team had chances to score but neither was able to find the net.
Pella coach Mark Solomon credited his team with some excellent defensive play. The final score was Pella 0, Waukee 0.
After about a one hour break the Dutch took to the field to play a well rested Bettendorf squad.
Solomon mentioned that fatigue was a factor early on for the Dutch.
Bettendorf scored past a defender who obscured the Pella goalkeeper’s view in the fourth minute of play.
Pella found some success with the wind, however Bettendorf managed a second goal in the 22nd minute of play.
The Dutch played into the wind in the second half. Bettendorf made the final 3-0 with a goal in the 48th minute of play.
Pella’s varsity record now stands at 2-2-1.
