---- — A total of seven young ladies have reported to practice for the Pella Christian girls’ varsity golf team this season.

Five of the girls are returning letter winners who coach Larry Hessing will build the team around.

The letter winners include seniors Amy Dunsbergen, Sarah Fopma and Cori Uitermarkt. Savanna Baugh is a junior letter winner and Autumn Vos is a sophomore, who lettered a year ago.

Hessing said the strength of the 2013 squad is the returning experience back from a year ago, with five returning varsity golfers.

“The weakness is, we still need to raise our skill level in all areas of the game,” Hessing said.

Grinnell and Newton are regarded as Little Hawkeye Conference league favorites according to the PC coach.

The Eagles were 7-25 on the course in 2012.

Hessing added, “We expect continued improvement. Hopefully we can become more competitive in the LHC and at the district level with 5 classes now in girls golf.”
